looks like my power supply going out took the motherboard with it. can anyone recomend a good midrange (price wise)replacement.
also is it wise to go with the combo sets or buy everything seprate.

What are you going to be operating with your power supply? Ie, what cpu, what mobo, what video card, sound card, how many fans will you be running, other peripherals, etc. Will you be overclocking? Personally, if you are buying a new power supply, I wouldn't buy anything under 400 watt.

A good, clean, steady power supply is pretty important.

i am looking at running a K7T266 pro 2 ddr socket a with a KT266a chipset and an Athlon 1.3GHz 266MHZ processor will this be sufficent to run AH. i have win me as an operating sys. my hard drive and cd rom appear to be working .

Yep, that is a good solution... that will be fine for AH for a while... depending of course on what video card you will be using...

Fine for a while, LOL, they don't get much faster than that!

You definately shouldn't settle for anything less than a GeForce 2 Titanium or (if you can afford it) a GeForce 3 Titanium 200 for peak performance though.

(What speed is your harddrive - 5400 or 7200 rpm? A 7200 rpm drive is much faster than a 5400 rpm drive. Since you have to reinstall windows anyway, now is a good time to upgrade if your old one is 5400 rpm.)

Another option you should consider (if you really need to save money) is getting an MSI K7N420 PRO. I did a system with this board and I was very impressed with it. It comes with a GeForce 2 MX card built on (but still has the AGP video slot for upgrading) AND Dolby Digital 5.1 sound AND ethernet. This board would be about $180 - $200. That 1.3 Ghz 266 Mhz FSB Athlon would pop right in there. A Geforce 2 MX is not the top of the line by any means, but it is definately fast enough to deliver good framerates in AH. It also doesn't hurt that this board is extremely stable and well layed out.

The board you picked is also excellent (it's also from MSI by the way). It's very fast and very stable. (You do have to install the via 4 in 1 drivers though, remember to do that right after you get windows installed, they will come on the cd with the motherboard.)
