Gpwurzel:  thank you sir, it was a great trip. Most of the fish weren't real big, avg fish in the 20 -25lb range, but there were dozens in the 30's and and a few up to 60lbs, with the jackpot being an 80lb bluefin.

The gentleman in the white shirt with the backpack was the one with the 80lber. He had the right eqp. at the right time, a new Talica II with 50# line.

I hear that Flench, I try to get off the water before the heat max's out - being on the water in 117 degree weather not fun. Perversely, today would have been lovely, had a storm front come through, really nice this morning at 5am (woke up due to back pain lol...)

Good to see ya btw, been a while - still flying the extended range r/c?

Wurz

I'm not going back until it cools down some . 99 here today . To hot .

Hehe, I haven't been hot once when fishing so far this summer.   :(

In fact last Sat. fishing a tournament I kept my 2-shirts, fleece and bibs on the whole day on the water.

We've got Bassmasters here this week/weekend fishing on Cayuga lake.  I've thought about going down for the Sunday weigh-in but I don't think I'll get the time.  Rather just go fishing if I do.  Be snowing soon anyhow.  :bhead

Good point; you east coast guys ought to go get out before weather changes.

How far up the line did the yellowfin make it this year? VA, NJ?

I'm starting a career change next week, nursing school...once I'm finished I'm considering a move; either back to the rcky mtn states, ID, WY, UT, maybe back to CO, but also I'm researching a bit into South Carolina. I like the idea of good fishing year round and many of the species I like to target there, but humidity is something I really haven't had to deal with much. I see Columbia at the moment is 99 deg and 29% humidity, not a bad day today I guess. It's the 99 and 90% days that would be foreign to me.

Anybody do much fishing in South Carolina?

Hoorah! Im heading up to Lake Vermillion MN. in Oct.

Been way to long since Ive seen the Northwoods, had a walleye shore lunch, heard the Loons, hunted the mighty Musky. Lord I used to go north 4 or 5 times a year when I had my boats. Then I discovered mid south fishing, but I still went north a few times a year.

I never fished Vermillion. Ive done Leech, Lake of Woods, Mille Lacs, but never Vermillion. They are all "huge" big fish lakes and in the fall are capable of producing monsters. Hell Ive caught my biggest bass and walleye on Muskie lures in the fall.

Ive had 5 boats thru the years starting with a 15' V-hull when i got out of the service in '81. Ive been blessed to have fished as much as I have and in so many places as I have.

Indeed.  Was about to load up and go slay trout for a couple hours but it ain't gonna happen.  Weather channel says it's 92 and with heat index feels like 103.  That's hard on me and the fish. :(

Hey Tec, boat is pretty damn impressive truth be told.

So far, set a pb for a lmb at 6.7 pounds - for Lake Perris, thats considered a small pb sigh

Good to hear and yea you're gonna need to work on that.  My PB LM is 6lb 6oz, but that's a good fish this far north.  Do they still pull 20lbers out of Castaic?

Did you go with the Elite 5?  And if so how are you liking it so far?

hey Tec, yep, went with the elite 5 on the bow (mounted the transducer on the trolling motor). The good thing about having it set this way, allows me to pinpoint the fish once I come across active fish on the 5x pro on the console. The downside is that I have to have the elite up and running to mark points, ie, I have to go to the bow to input a waypoint. Clarity in the Cali sun is very good, the mount allows me to move it to where I can see it comfortably from pretty much anywhere. Had I had the money, I'd have had an elite 5 both bow and console, but a lack of cash inhibited that - once I get some money socked away in the bank, I'll get that sorted out tho.

Initally, was swapping between fish id mode and arches - once I got used to reading it, I now leave it on arches (more accurate). Easy to use, the only regret I have is not having the patience to get the next one up, with side scan - when I got the boat, Bass Pro had a sale on for that, could have got it for the same price as the one I have now - but would have meant waiting for the boat a week more - my fault entirely, and not that big a deal, but something I regret as I could have had a unit with side scan and structure scan, instead of just down. (if that makes any sense)

Castaic still has some massive fish in there, as does Irvine, Perris, Diamond Valley Lake, Silverwood etc. Was going to volunteer for a special needs kids day, but cant stand for more than 10 mins, or sit for more than 10 mins due to my back being fubar (also just been diagnosed as being diabetic - which I've been for a few years apparently). Ho hum - live goes on, just need to change my eating habits n all that sorta stuff.

For info, the lake record in Perris is an 18lb'er plus - not sure on the other lakes, but pretty sure 6.7 aint gonna cut it lol....

The nice thing about using it in line mode is if you ever vertical jig for them you can set it up so you can see your bait and watch how the fish react to what you're doing.  Sucks your back is all jacked up though, makes doing anything suck, even fishing.

We drove up to www.pineclifflodge.com which is on Big Sandy Lake just north of Dryden, Ontario. Long damn drive from Texas! We fished for five days and caught some many pike that I lost count.  This was my first experience pike fishing. The pictures below were 31 to 34 1/2 inches long.  The ole lady caught the small mouth and it measured 15 1/2 inches.

Bug it was WAYYYY cooler than San Antonio for sure! One morning was in the 40s.  That is the dead of winter type weather at home.  Got up to around 75 during the day.  I am hooked on fishing up there.   :aok
