It would take a dump truck worth of corn meal to make all the hush puppies to go with that monster  :lol

Went out Sunday with a couple guys from work, little better luck this time.  Was good to see a bunch of boats out there, was a beautiful day and also a ProAm tournament was going on but wasn't too crowded.  Found a decent spot in a 170ft of water and pretty much just worked it all morning, tried deeper for a little bit but no luck.  Also spent the last hour shallower, bouncing balls on the bottom with cowbells and spin-n-glos/peanuts trying to pick up a slimy lake trout but nothing doing there.

Went five for eight and caught 3 kings and 2 steelhead.

Caught our first king before we even got all the poles in the water....

Turned out to be a pretty good one..

This one was our best for the day(sorry about the sun)...

Our third king...

Didn't get any pics of the steelhead.  Going back out tomorrow after work and then again this Sunday.  Weather looks like it is going to cooperate perfectly and hopefully the fishing just continues to improve as the lake sets up.  I love this time of year.

Thanks Flench, ill look for that plug

I use to do it all the time with my dad, we would troll Rapalas or Rebel stick baits in about 20 to 30ft of water with some sucess. We concentrated mostly on rip rap bottoms, and points.

I know they make trolling rigs, spinner / night crawler rigs, Jig rigs, leech rigs etc........Im thinking now that i have 2 downriggers, i want to try out some other techniques

Stained water, im thinking brighter colors, maybe with a spray attractant (never used it before though)

Bug, to say that im jealous would be the understatement of the century!!  Nice Fish!!

To find 170' here your not going to be able to see land. Nice fish. Right about now until the end of July is when the Big kings are landed. An exception for us is April when the alwives spawn and you have the chance to catch a 20lb'er on a surface rig. But I used to love hunting the big Kings right about now. By mid July I'd be up in Door County WI which is a heck of a steelhead fishery too. I love when you can find a sharp surface scum/Temp line cause you just know the steelies will be stacked like cordwood on it.

What depth/speed/temp/lures were you using? Spoons? What kind?

Oh, i had a quick question, does anyone here troll for Walleyes....... any suggestions" The lake is stained water and is anywhere from 2 to 100ft deep, Its man made, with multiple creeks feeding the lake. Just wondering what rigs, lures, techniques others have had success with.

Catching walleyes on trolling rigs is an entirely different animal then most fish. First off walleyes are fish of low light, if the lake is stained then so much the better. 2nd I recomend you buy some inline planer boards. Planers boards are contraptions you place in your line to take the line and lure off to the side of the boat. It serves two purposes, 1 allows you to cover more ground, 2 gets your lure out of the way of the boat which spooks walleyes. http://www.cabelas.com/planer-boards-yellow-bird-side-planers.shtml . Ive had great luck planerboarding at night with litlle chem night sticks drilled into the boards, so I can see the action of the board in the dark. The action of the board will tell you if a fish is on, your hooked on vegetation....ect

You can catch fish long lining, thats simply letting about 150' of line out with your lure and holding your rod as you troll but it wont compare with using boards.

Walleye are very structure related fish. They will be around structure and often not far from deep water. The exception is night time when they will roam the flats. Good places to key on are edges of large cabbage beds, points jutting out "especially when near deep water", and mid lake structure surrounded by deep water. Best baits are rapalas and blackstar type jointed minnows. Chartruese and orange are always good colors. But pattern the fish. If they want a certain color then give them nothing but.

If you sent me a map of the lake I'd show you where the fish are. Other then that I could type for hours about trolling walleyes. Windy days are good, they dont like a lot of noise and boat traffic, and are structure orientated. Your not going to catch them trolling in midlake deep water. Troll long sections of shoreline right on weed edges or drop offs.

Good luck.

The Lindy rig tipped with a leech or minnow will land Walleye every time.

Your not going to catch them trolling in midlake deep water.

I believe this all depends on what you consider "deep". A lot of the inland lakes I fish only get 30 or so feet deep. From sunset until ~midnight we do well trolling right up the gut.

 :salute

EDIT: I should add that a lot of these lakes are wall to wall with crayfish and suckers in the deep portions and that, for the most part, they are quite murky. When the lakes "turn over" the water gets very clouded and the fishing turns off.
