Prop damage
« on: July 18, 2010, 11:53:59 AM »
I was sitting here last night looking at a frontal shot of a P-51D on my desktop which got me to thinking.  Why don't we ever see prop damage other than if you land with gear up?  While I understand the likelyhood is small, with all those enemy bullets whizzing through the prop arc surely over the nine years I've been here my prop would have been damaged at least once, especially with all the HOs that go on.

Anyone know what the rl propensity of this happening was?
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

With the speeds involved in a prop/bullet collision, I imagine that it would create one heck of a bang to say the least, in real life?

Usually if I hit someone all up and down their nose, it ends up that their engine goes out. This might be a simulation but without all the flashy bullet holes in your prop.

I think it's one of those things you don't hear about because if it was catastrophic there was no one to tell the tale.

The instances I have heard of bullet holes through props, no one noticed until they were down and the blades weren't turning any more.

...unless you hit a tree or something, and we have that now.

Bullets often put holes even into metal props... unfortunately, this changed the balance of the prop and often caused all kinds of oscillations, particularly noticeable in single engine birds.

I think it's one of those things you don't hear about because if it was catastrophic there was no one to tell the tale.

There is an A20 prop in a museum near me that has many holes in it from a Me109. The tips were also bent back as the A20 hit the water, the weight of what the poor kids went through really strikes home when you see the prop.

I think what we have to remember in the game is coding, graphics intensity, and overall performance of the game.

Right now if you watch a replay.. at a particular speed the prop no longer is a solid and visible item in the game. It becomes an almost invisible rotating haze. The prop is no longer a solid "physical" object.

I am willing to bet that in order for them to do what many of you are asking they would need to solidify the prop at least a bit which means your PC would constantly be having to graphically display at solid object rotating at thousands of RPM...

This is obviously only my observation.. as simply watching the replays does not include seeing the actual coding on the prop itself as it stands now, by I am willing to bet I am somewhere close in my statement to the truth.

The entire purpose of that post was to insult HTC because we do not wish to implement something you desire.

If you have any other question feel free to send a PM. But it is not an issue to be discussed on this forum.

 :huh

Er no, it was a genuine thought, HTC can't make Mirrors viable, therefore the coding for such a request of Bullets Collecting Props would also be unviable.

Not a flame on HTC coding talent of something i'm neutral to. Still not a rule 4, you sir have misunderstood and acted in haste.

Also the 2 quotes refreshed the memory and did not seek to rule 4 either.
