Track IR setting please!
« on: July 20, 2010, 10:36:19 PM »
Ok, finally took the plunge and purchased TrackIR 5 with the hat clip (all they had).

Gotta say, so far more of a nuisance than an addition to the game.

Moving left and right and up and down is ..eh ..ok.  I've fiddled with the bands for hours trying to keep a certain degree of movement around the center at a minimum while moving much further as I turn further.

The main issue I'm having is the smoothness, seems very choppy although my system is beefed up.  I try to slow things down, it helps but movement is impeded.  Your gestures have to be more large to get a better view and I really dont want to do that.  It's like its either or..

Next, rear view - when you turn your head and want to look over the wing, I just can't get this down.  I've tried increasing the Z band, having trueview on...true view off...etc etc.  Nothing can replicate looking backwards with a good old fashioned joystick and set views.  And, once I'm looking back because of the dramatic range that I have for that area so I'm not looking totally from the corners of my eyes, I seem to not get the ability to hold a look without it just whirling/spinning/twisting crazy as if it's in hyper mode...which, it is because to get you to see back there, ...well...it has to exaggerate your settings significantly.

I feel no virtual feeling what so ever with this.  I've experienced enough virtual gear to get a feeling like that before and this just feels disconnected from the game.  I've tried everything I could for about 3 or 4 hours of trial and error.

I just dont get it.

I did accomplish looking over the dash easier and reducing my slight movements vs movements I intend on making.  I love the center feature, but the range of this thing is pretty poor if you ask me.  Look down or up too much, or sideways and leaning back to look over the back 6 area, it goes out of range very easily.

I've tried several of the default profiles, downloaded a few from websites and tried my own variations which I zoomed to perfect...at least it seemed so in the testing until you get into game.

So I'm not sure what to do here.  Still within my 'trial' period, but was hoping someone had some advice or maybe a profile or two I could work with.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant, I guess it is in a way.  Just very disappointed they don't have a more 3dimensional editor.  It's 2d for a 3d world.  Being able to adjust x axis for when y axis hits a point would have been most valuable.  Unless I'm missing something that is.

How long have you had it?  It takes some getting used to.  I don't know what advice to give you on the settings, I just fiddled with it for a while.

I also have a pretty good system but have been getting some choppiness lately, too.  I don't know if it's something on my computer or what.  You might check your views > tracking.  It's a black screen with green marks for the inputs.  Sometimes you'll have outside light sources interfering with the sensor and that can mess with smoothness.

Looking back is a full shoulder and head movement for me, which I like.  It isn't as crisp as the hat switch magical swivel head, so I like the added realism.

I am using TrackIR 4 Pro though, with 4.1.037 software so I might have slightly different experiences than you.

I fount it easier at the begining to do this  (I've had mine for about 6 months)

-use the templates that come with it.  use the one called "smooth"

- under motion control set speed to 1 and smooth to 40.  lots of people have speed at 1.6 or more, so you will see a blurry crap.  set it at 1 get used to it, then move it later if you want.

to look behind me i still use my thumb views on my stick and move head side to side and up and down, i find it easier.  but mainly dont give up, it is awesome, i cant fly w/o it anymore.

takes practice but it will be worthwhile.

Sincraft, I have the older TrackIR 3 Pro, but I discovered that for smoother tracking I had to keep a minimum distance of about two feet between the unit and my hat clip.  Also, I programmed a button on my throttle to send the "center view" keystroke, which I use pretty often.  YMMV

I'm with Sincraft - I have a TrackIR4 Pro but not a clue how to optimize it with Aces High (or any other game) to the point where I don't use it much (don't ask, I'm not sellin it!).   Any help on how to properly set it up would be appreciated. :salute

guys seriously, thanks for the tips. There is so much to adjust on this thing really.  One thing can not be tested with the game, you have to truly understand ALL of the adjustments or have a golden profile land in your lap.  I think I've landed just that for a bit to keep me going and tweaking. :)  Not a perfect situation for me just yet but heading there.

My only complaint would be , that they need to increase the range of the receiver as far as degrees left/right up/down, and make the device sit more forward as to not interfere with the feet on the base.  sitting on a 24" monitor I've got to tweak my rig a bit both in seating and height of monitor before I found it took much more to go out of range on it.  You def need to sit further back though.  UP and back for me, glad I have the 24" otherwise I would be squinting.  bad eyes eh.

when you say zoom in disabled what do you mean?  as in forward leaning in trackir?
