Don't wanna sound like a total dweeb, but........
« on: November 27, 2001, 08:16:00 PM »
This freakin system still is screwing up.

I checked my IRQ and DMA settings, got nothing showing to be conflicting, but still, more times than not, I get the big white screen when I try to launch AH.
So, I have a question, or rather, a series of questions....
In my BIOS, where you set up the PnP IRQ's, it says "PnP or ISA device" or "Legacy/ISA device"...........
My sound card is an old Creative Labs ISA one, basically equivalent to the SB16.
My old Diamond Viper 770 Ultra TNT2 vid card is AGP, when I checked it out on the Diamond website, it is listed as a Legacy card.....
The new POS card I bought on Nov.15 is a VisionTek Xtasy 5564 GeForce2 MX400 64mb card, AGP.......
What IRQ settings should I try with these devices to get AH to work?
BTW, the mobo is an Abit VH6-II, with the VIA Apollo 133 Pro chipset, can't recall off the top of my head the ID #'s.
I am almost to the point of either just giving up on AH altogether, or waiting til I can afford to build another system.  One squaddie suggested that my 250W power supply might be a possible culprit.....any comments on that idea?

Have you tried updating your VIA AGP driver?

How about DX 8a (or 8.1, though I haven't tried that one yet)?

Does it happen in other games as well?

What detonator version are you using? Try 12.41s for win2k and 7.78s or 7.58s for 98/me.

Have you tried deleting the video.cfg file in the aces high settings directory?

Eddie, I don't think the power supply is the issue.  If I had to guess I'd say you might not have completely uninstalled the drivers for the TNT2 and that's causing you problems now.  One thing that never hurts is a clean reinstall of the operating system.

Hi bloom25,

Yep, I tried the VIA AGP drivers, no difference.

Have DirectX 8 installed, may try 8.1 if I can get it to download.
Yes, it happens to other games was well.  I have WB 2.77 and DOA on my system as well, and it does it with those games too.
As for as drivers, I am using 7.58's right now....tried the 21.85's that came with the GF2, tried 7.78's, tried the 12.40's, even tried deleting all of those and reinstalling the Viper and using the drivers that came on the it's installation disk.  Same thing, white screen.
It is just so WEIRD!  Last night, I made no changes, but it let me into the game.  FPS sucked, started out in the 50's, got worse the longer I stayed in the arena til finally they hit the single digits and I landed and exited....lol.  Ever try to land a Jug at A4 with your FPS at 5-6?  AH slideshow with a built in pucker factor!    :D
I am open to suggestions here, fellas.
If you think I should go into the IRQ stuff, please tell me how to do it correctly?  I am in uncharted territory when I go in there and am not at all comfortable doing it.
BTW, I used Detonator Destroyer when I removed the various drivers.....had heard that just using Remove/Install left parts of the Detonators in place and cause problems with the new drivers when you put them in.........
