ahhh, 75 fps just in the benchmark. during most ingame flying fps is pegged at 85 fps (max refresh rate for my monitor) hehehe. in smoke it comes down to a lously 60.

nice fps!  what ya got under the hood?  (chip type/speed, motherboard, ram)

also, what resolution/color depth are you running it at?

with a framerate like that, you could probably bump up the resolution a notch and get some more detail, and still have a very good frame rate!

specs:

250 watt power supply
Uwave 786K1 board  <--- Compac house brand???
AMD Athlon 1.2 gig 266 fsb
Asus V7700 GeForce 2 w/ V6.31c drivers
128 pc133 ram,  soon to be 256+128 pc133
Soundmax digital audio  <---- POS sound card

running at 1024 res with 32 bit color in AH and pegged at 84-85 fps 95% of the time. i dont really like the next higher res, makes everything else too small IMO. in smoke and at the edge of coulds it gets down to the 60's. lowest its been was taking off a b17 in a field with tons of smoke and many fiters over field and i was getting 45 fps.

All this is on a flat screne by the way. its max refresh rate it 85 hz. is a normal monitor much faster? if so i probably wouldnt be able to tell the diference, and i like the flat screne much more then the round ones just for looks and watching dvds.

I'm gona be getting a 256 pc133 soon along with a new sound card. my sound card is giving me problems in RW and just all around sucks. I think the 256 will help a lot in normal web and desktop stuff, but probably not much in AH.

I think my computer will be just about maxed out after the ram. not much more i can do without spending major bucks on a new motherboard or a geforce 3, and even then i would be gaining very little in the way of FPS, just better res. and i like the res.

very happy with my setup, cant say how well the V7700 works, i would recomend it to anyone looking to up there sys.

Nice setup.

I personally run at 1280x1024x32 (i think that's right) but it's fine on the 19 in monitor size wise.

I think my fps were 39 front view, 66 left and 57 right.

amd athlon 900, asus a7 mobo, 384mb pc100, geforce2 64mb (herc prophet II), SB live platinum (not totally thrilled with it...)  I'm happy with the frame rate for the most part. a fully smoking base slows it down, but other than that, I'm happy.

I thought you might like to know that Asus just released 11.01 drivers for these cards.  They should provide even better performance.

I would say though to leave the ones you have if you are happy though.  If your refresh rate is already maxed out it's no use changing drivers.  All that could really happen is something gets screwed up.

I thought I'd also say that going from 128 to 384 MB of ram won't help much if you are running Win95, 98, or ME.  (Windows 2000 would definately be faster though.)  Unless you have money to burn (ram is cheap at least) I wouldn't get your hopes up for a noticable performance boost.  The only programs that would benefit would be graphics and video apps mainly.  (Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, etc.)

The 384mb ram is because a friend sold me his 256mb stick for $50.  At the time, there was no way I could have beat that price, nor come within $25 of it!  Of course, now is a different story.  But you're right.  Doesn't make much difference in games on my win98 box, but it does help with Photoshop!

As for vid card drivers, I only use what Hercules (Guillemot) has posted.
