Headed to Louisiana for the World Series
« on: July 27, 2010, 03:17:48 PM »
Just thought I'd share to some of our more southern residents that a bunch of us fools from VA are headed your way this Thursday.

I help coach the Dixie Majors (17 - 19) all-star team that won the VA state championship last week and are now Dixie Majors World Series bound.  From what I understand we are leaving on a brand new Mercedes charter bus on Thursday at 6:30 a.m. Eastern, traveling to Greenville, AL to spend the night then back up Friday morning to arrive in Independence, LA by our 1:00 p.m. check in time.

A banquet on Friday evening then opening ceremonies at 7 p.m. I think, followed by what appears to be a trip to New Orleans on Friday night since we don't play the state champions from Florida until Saturday at 4 p.m.  Y'all pray for me on the bus ride down, all of the kids+parents+girl friends+family members+most likely adult beverages = either an epic (can't believe I used that word) or tragic trip.

The good news after all of that is, since we have to stop any way coming back for the bus driver, we are going to stop in Atlanta for the night and the local league is paying for tickets for the players and coaches to go watch my beloved Braves play.

Anybody within driving distance come on out and watch some amazing baseball played by some of the best young baseball players you'll get to see in the southern U.S.

I went to 3 of these as a player and now going to my first as a coach and the feeling of excitement is still the same.  I'm not going to be able to sleep a wink Wednesday night.
