Sliders for engine and gun sounds
« on: July 23, 2010, 08:14:41 AM »
I wish for just two more sliders please.  A slider only for guns and one for engines - the two loudest sounds that seem to drown out the others.
Currently, when I turn down "effects", the flaps become difficult to hear.  I would be perfectly fine if all engines (mine and external) were tied to the same slider.  Same for guns.  :pray

I'll reinforce this. It should NOT be possible to turn down your own engine to be able to hear other aircraft approaching more easily.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

+1 :aok

I suspect alot of the sound system moans are from people who have completely tweaked individual sounds to gamey settings.

Listening to the engine of other planes behind you reminds me of that sticker on the side mirrors or cars, "objects are closer than they appear".  I understand what you are saying about people lowering their sounds, I had mine really low, but not to listen to other engines, it was so just because the sound of my engine was driving me nuts.

As for Cal's posting a big +1.  that and get rid of the air raid sound, I replaced mine yesterday with the pigs's authorized check six sound and it drove me nuts in about 40 seconds (sound is a pig squealing, lol).  now I replaced it with a blank sound.

I'm guessing the OP hasn't read the myriad whine threads about the sound to find this little tidbit:

On the individual sound controls, it's not going to be feasible.  We're just in the phase 1 core implementation of this and by the time we're done we're going to literally have hundreds of sounds.  We're not going to put hundreds of sounds into a menu and if we did, nobody would go through that giant monstrous mess of a dialogue anyway.  As HT is fond of referring to, people are asking for one thing (individual sound control of everything) while really wanting another (individual sound control of certain things).  Just because we're not going to do the former doesn't mean we have no interest in the latter.  We can see the merit of perhaps further subdividing the current sliders and putting some things like engine or stall horn on their own slider.  There are limitations to how far we'll take that.

ditto

Just flying around was giving me a headache.  Yeah, I could turn down all sounds with my headset, but then I couldn't hear anything but the engine.

I agree except for the load sound of bombs dropping two miles away sounding like they are right beside you...Cannot hear my tank fire but the shell hit sound is so load I have to turn down my volume.. Sounds do need some more tweaking.. They are close but HTC needs to do more work in MHO... :salute

I'm guessing the OP needed a time machine to see that little tidbit, as it was posted some eight hours after this thread.

Swing and a miss.  :neener:
