Having stick issues since test version. Is it worn or is it something else?

Hi chaps!

Lately, since I tested the new version and now, since the new version was launched, I have been experiencing problems with my joystick performance.

I own a very cheap stick a Black Hawk NGS clone of a Thrustmaster Fox Two. They usually last one year. This one was bought three months ago.

What happens is that it suddenly swings and rolls left or wobbles the nose like if it has rudder input... all kinds of weird inputs that are ruining my flying... I keep calibrating but it doesn't get any better...

My first thought was "It's a goner, it's spiking all over, pots broken...". But it's strange that it happened when I did the tests, then ceased to happen and now, since the new version came out, I have this problem again.

I know it's a crappy joystick but I wonder if it might be software induced or special tuning is required... I never fiddled with stick scaling. All I do is take the stick out of the box, plug it to a USB door and play.

You experts have any ideas? Is there a way to know if the pots are waisted?

Make sure that you calibrate the controller in Windows first.  Then in AH, go to the Map Controllers section and click on the axis you've assigned a flight control too (i.e. elevator, aileron, throttle, rudder) and then click on the Calibrate Axis button.  Follow the onscreen instructions to calibrate the individual axis.  After you've done all that, back in the Controller preferences section on the Clipboard, click on Calibrate Controllers and follow the instructions to calibrate your controllers.

If you're stick is working properly to begin with, it will now be properly calibrated in both Windows and AH.

a couple days ago 4 squad members experienced problems at same time, for me when I would take off it would just veer off to the left and nose would hit the ground this was on auto pilot and if tried to do it manually same thing. Also throttle was not working right ,too slow. After doing the CH control manager calibration, the individual axis in AH and finally the overall calibration in AH it was fixed but I had to do them all. Seemed odd 4 would have the same problem same day.

Thank you very much Ack-Ack, I will do as you say. I hope it solves the problem... I never calibrated individual axis... OMG, so many years of AH and I'm only a notch above a two-weeker noob...

Yes Flatiron, that is exactly what happened to me when I was using the test exe. I had a real hard time to take-off, crashing everytime. Had to reboot and re-calibrate.

Will tell you if it worked or not.

Ack-Ack, I believe the problem is solved. Thank you very much for your advice. In the short test flight i did, all was smooth and worked fine, all controls acting perfectly.

Well, believe it or not, the stick just died today. Useless. When trying to calibrate in Windows started to see that somthing wasn't right, When Calibrating the Y Axis in AH had no readings when turning left. Something broke I think.

Oh well, will try a Thrustmaster this time...

Sounds like a dead potentiometer is what finally did your stick in.
