I would have to pick from the three : P51D / Ki-84 / me262  I will pick the ki with a hurricane MK 22C gun package .  :bolt:

I'd absolutely have to go with the P38. Always a spare something if anything breaks, tricycle gear for easier landing, and when you fire up those Allisons... vrroooOOOOOOOMMMM

There is actually only one correct answer here and it was given long long ago....

"It's the best damn fighter I've ever flown."
        Fred M. Trapnell

A bit about him from Wiki
Frederick Mackay "Fred" Trapnell (July 9, 1902 - January 30, 1975) was a United States Navy admiral and aviation pioneer. Trapnell was the first Navy pilot to fly a jet aircraft, was considered the best, most experienced naval test aviator of his generation, co-founded the branch's first test pilot school

It would have to be the C205.  There is just something elegant but brutal about her.  It's the Ferrari of the skies.

So I'm wishing for a plane that I could own that would fly from point A to point B, w/out regard for fuel or operating costs?

PBY.

Lots of room and storage, plus  it's amphibious which would open up lots of destinations that don't have traditional runways, and I've always thought it was a gorgeous airplane.

Excluding all the factors you exclude (and maintenance issues as well), the Mossie wins hands down - although it edges out the JU-88 by a squeak.

PBY Catalina.

H8K2 would be nice, but the maintenance would be impossible.
