It's been easy compared to cavemen.
Yeeeh.... funny.
1) Our library was in the outhouse and we used it for toilet paper.
2) We got mail when we went to town for groceries. Groceries meant flour coffee lard and dried beans. Only. Mail meant maybe a catalog that would end up in the library.
3) I never got a beating from any adult. We got 'switched' if we were really bad. Once was enough.
4) We didnt have a music store to 'steal' from but I can tell you no one stole anything. Sign of our times I guess.
5) Our radio was for programs that came on after dinner and just before bed. Our television had only two channels and so it was on for the Presidential Address if we knew it would be on. TV Guide was a luxury.
6) Our phone was for emergencies. If the phone rang it usually meant bad news... or that bad news was coming for a visit.
7) Our cell phone was a bell marked '1 mile' which meant thats about how far you could hear it. After that distance you might miss dinner which might happen once and once only.
8) Caller ID was the girl operator talking to you before she connected the call. She always gossiped before and after and probably listened to everything in between.
9) Games? Games were played outside and usually in the woods or down at the creek.
10) The TV channel never changed because there was Dads channel and NOT Dads channel? Remember the switch.
11) Kids dont have anything on TV to watch unless Dad is watching TV.
12) Microwaves? We didnt have a freezer until I was nearly in high school. That meant we could finally stop canning things and until then we canned everything!
13) We played outside when we had time to play. There were times we played all day. Sunday usually. The truck was used for work and getting the mail or hauling everyone to Church. I got up one Sunday and went out to play before church. I had to go to church that day with muddy legs and that led to the switch.
Say what you want but I dont think kids today are lucky at all! Easy? They have it easy but it isnt doing them any good. Far from it!
