However, when I first flipped through the boards I looked at guys posts as sort of the metric on their credibility.

I don't think anyone with even the smallest smattering of experience with any BBS even remotely associates post count with credibility.  In many instances it's like assuming the more times she's been married before, the better wife she'd make.
