Airventure 2010 (56K? Go away..)
« on: August 02, 2010, 08:47:23 PM »
To be quite honest I was a little bit disappointed.  I went to see warbirds fly, and they were pretty short on that this year.  Can't complain too much though, any day you can roam freely in a field and get up close and personal with a dozen Mustangs is a good day.  Some of the highlights of the day included seeing two people on electric scooters get stuck together in front of Glacier Girl, a very cool two person seaplane and their TH2G simulator, and a one man helicopter that is powered by magic.  The Osprey and the Global Hawk were there, the Osprey was much smaller than I expected, and the Hawk much larger.  There was a DR1 in the standard Red Baron paint, not sure if it was legit or repro.  Next to the DR1 was a DVII which I believe was original.  Mustaine kept carrying on about Shawn Tucker, and I found out why.   The guy melted my brain, if the word 1337 ever makes the dictionary his picture should be next to it.      There was a beautifully restored FG1-D on static display in the warbirds area which I was able to get some good reference pics of for a skinning project I've been sitting on for a while.

Yeah, thanks.

Heard it was like a swamp, though.

Kept getting emails from EAA about landing conditions, and how to plan for it.   :noid

Nice

Tucker and his kid almost look like they have a clue on how to fly.

Very fun to watch.

I went up for the evening last Wednesday and spent some time wandering around with my squaddie Atticus. He was camped out on the North End where all the warbirds were taking off and landing (by the Super 8). I drove up from just south of Milwaukee (happened to be in town for work that week) and drank a few beers with him then.

There is a Yak-3 at PWA.  (in OKC)

I was lucky enough to sit in it once and fiddle w/ the buttons.

Same guy owns the P-51D 'Miss America'.
