Direct x 8.0a and voodoo 3 3000
« on: May 27, 2001, 06:28:00 PM »
Hi there,

I am going to have to install direct x 8.0a and need to know what the ramifications will be on my Voodoo 3 3000 card. I looked for new drivers but only found them for Win 2k and I have win 95. Anyone have any info on this?

I would like to maintain my current setup for financial reasons. In other words I'm too damn broke to buy much of anything.

I'm running a Voodoo 3 3000 with DX8.0a. No problems here.

Other hardware:

Abit KA-7 MOBO
AMD Athlon 750
Soundblaster Live

There shouldn't be a problem.  Your current drivers should be fine, but if you have problems, just try looking at sites like www.the-ctrl-alt-del.com  in their drivers section.

(About the only game I can think of that requires dx8 is tribes 2, which I missed getting a free copy of by about 1 minute.   )

No great loss Bloom.  I gave up on Tribes 2 after the latest patch porked my install for the third time.  Sigh.  Each patch they break it again after I get it all sorted out.

One of the buggiest releases I've ever seen.  Great game... shame it doesn't work well.

Hello again,

I seem to have a functioning computer after all. I did get the 8.0a installed and no problems with AH.

I did need this new Dx for tribes 2. My son thought it would be a nice present. So far I have an update to Tribes2 installed but have never gotten the damn thing to run. I'll try fiddling with it a bit more but am inclined to remove it with all the problems so far. Sigh, you'd think they could get their act together on a simple program like this. It's not like it's AH for crying out load!

Mav,

I got it to run in OpenGL.  The key for me was the "synch" option in video setup.  By default this was on, and I couldn't do a thing until I disabled it.

I also couldn't do a thing until I removed one of my 2 sticks of RAM.  Bah.  Is CRAP.
