Time to spend some of my hard-earned cash
« on: May 28, 2001, 11:50:00 PM »
I've been out for a few weeks with an ill video card and it's lead me to consider the inevitability of having to get a more suitable machine. Does anybody have any thoughts/suggestions/recommendations on P4 vs. AMD Thunderbird?

Thanks
Pei

1,33Ghz AMD is faster in gameing use than P4 1,7Ghz (Test was in one of our PC-Magazines) so guess AMD could be best buy.
They're also cheaper than Pentiums

I just bought a Tbird 1.3Ghz and motherboard that I found on http://www.pricewatch.com   for $240

It screams!

Yesterday, with that processor and my Radeon 32meg DDR card, I was getting 91 fps in normal flight forward view in a La7.

I'm quite happy with the performance for the price.

P4s are rip offs, plain and simple.  The 1.7 performs on par with the 1.33 Tbirds in some applications.  Usually the tbird is faster.  In AH the Athlon is easily faster than the P4, and not just by a little bit.

Even better, the Tbird is cheaper than the p4.
