Thats what I have... 192meg of SDRAM (PC100) and a TNT VIPER 770 NVIDIA vid card w/32 meg.
My FR's go from low 20's to low 30's. Is there a chip that fits the same as my current processor that will improve my PC performance especialy for FLight Sims...?

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

No K6 series processor will deliver very high FPS in AH.    Their FPU (floating point unit) is too weak.  Going to a K62 550 or K63 500 (<- fastest available in the series) will not make a big difference.  Save the money and consider buying a new MB and processor and reusing everything else that you can.

Okies... i see a "bare bones" system that includes various 1ghz systems/w MB and PS + case for around 300ish US dollars. How hard is it for me to install my own operating system..the net bios bla bla... I've done numerious device installs etc...

You should be able to just move your existing hard drive into your new box/mb config. Have the BIOS auto detect your hard drive and windows will do the rest as it detects and loads the drivers needed for your new config

I feel your pain.  I had a AMD K62-400 as well, and while it was zippy in a lot of applications, it was slow going in Aces High.  Frames of under 20 consistently...and if you really wanna slow down, wander down near smoke or ships.  <sigh!>

But...I upgraded to a new motherboard and an Intel P2 450 for under $150 a few months back, and I just replaced the P2-450 with a P3 550.  Im running 384mb of RAM and a Voodoo 3 3000 and frames are at 30 or higher, most of the time.

Get a zippier CPU, say an Athlon if you can swing it and be prepared to grin!  The only reason I have the P3 now is my friend needed a matching P2 450 for his NT Server and he made an offer I couldnt refuse (aren't trades cool?  Just wish he had an Athlon to barter with!).

I've been eyeing the video card discussions here, trying to eek out some more FPS.  ATI Radeon 64 seems to be getting the most nods?

1.3 MhZ Athlon and MB combos were listing in the lower $200 range this week.  I don't know what you can salvage there from your old machine, but depending on what you can you could have a very high end machine for not much more than that.

Eagler, that might work some of the time, but trust me, doing that is likely to result in a horribly unstable system.  It's best to just reformat and reinstall everything from scratch.
