Anyone playing from an IBM Thinkpad?
« on: May 31, 2001, 12:21:00 PM »
I love my ThinkPad, but its a Pentium 133 and Im going to sell/auction it off soon and buy a new Thinkpad.  The P3 800s and such are really nice, and have the ATI 8 and 16mb cards....is anyone playing from an IBM Thinkpad?

Its a lotta extra dough for a multimedia laptop and was wondering if anyone had any pearls of wisdom?

I've had 3 IBM ThinkPads and have had outstanding luck with them.  2 had hard drives fail, but the service and warranties were great, always got a helpful tech and the FedEx guys came scurrying in for the dead laptop, and 3 days later, I had it back, good as new.  My coworkers tell me nothing but horror stories of their Compaqs and Gateways, as well as some no-name brands.  So, Im sticking to IBM and would like to know what you guys can suggest.

Hi,

Just wondering why a laptop to play games?  Is this your work computer, which your company is buying?  Reason for asking:

I have a 19" Trinitron, Geforce2 Pro, and AMD 1GHz Thunderbird which I wouldn't trade, and I have a IBM Laptop for work....no comparison.  Just asking......

I use my old IBM 760CD laptop to play "Aces of the Deep" because that dam game won't work in WinME or W2k but runs nicely under W95 (Got two separate Hard-disks in laptop: one has W95 floppy vers. and other Win98).

Hi

I bring my laptop to work with me, and along with me throughout the day/evening since I also own a business.  So, it runs Visual Basic, Flash 5, QuickBooks Pro, PC Anywhere and all the other goodies to run/manage my business.

As a perk, it would be cool to play Aces High on the very same box, when I cant be on my home system.  That's all.

Not currently on a Stinkpad here   but the new craptop that you describe should run it just fine. My employment bases me on a laptop also, currently a 700mhz 256mb Ati 8mb and it runs fine, but that was just a short test and I have no desire to play from a craptop as it will never live up to my home system.

So it can be done  :-)  So while I am here at work, the faint sounds of a Lancaster can be heard churing about the office, sometime in the near future !  Muuuhahahaa

The new Dell Inspiron 8000 has Nvidia GeForce graphics chip onboard.  I think that laptop will play Aces High okay.

Hi LePaul,
I've never played AH on a Thinkpad but used to play it on a Compaq Armada 1750 (PII 333, 128mb ram, 8 mb ATI graphics). It got hot and FPS was around 8-10 but it was flyable. My current Laptop (Compaq PIII 500 128mb ram handles AH with ease (Although it still gets hot and FPS is only around 30). The Thinkpad you are looking at should have no problems.
