The system is up so know what
« on: March 22, 2001, 07:08:00 PM »
OK from my last posts here I pretty much blew the budget out of the water.

All the pieces are in and here is what I have.

TBIRD 850mhz, Asus a7v133, Asus V7700geforce 2 gts vidcard, Kingston 128meg pc133 RAM, and a 45gig hdrive with ultradma.

I am hoping for the smoothest gameplay with highest resolution. To me that would be to have my fps not dip below 30 in clouds or smoke.  If any one has this combo I aam curious how much can be pumped out of it.
I also added a TT super orb fan (looks like a central air cond unit) so I ready to soft switch the cpu and vid card to get this baby screaming.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA, that's too funny.

You aren't going to believe this, I just ordered an Asus V7700 Deluxe GF2 GTS card.

Not only that, but my system is nearly identical to yours:

Asus A7v MB (bios 1.06), 128 MB CAS 3 ram (slightly overclocked memory bus to 137 Mhz), Thunderbird 700@927, IBM 45 GB ATA 100 drive, DX 7a, etc, etc, etc.

Unfortunately it will be a week before I get my card installed.  I'm curious to see how it turns out pollock.

(BTW:  You might want to go to www.viahardware.com  and download and install the newest version of the AGP driver before you install the vid card.  Make sure you pick "turbo mode."  This should improve stablility and performance.)

I doubt I'll be on much for the next week or so, but if you have problems feel free to e-mail me at: bloom@engr.orst.edu

The link is on the left hand side of the page, about 1/2 way down.

It appears they have just released a version 4.05b of the AGP drivers.  I'm still using 4.03d, as I haven't got around to testing 4.05.  4.03d is 100% stable on my current Diamond Viper V770 ultra, but I'd try 4.05, since it might be even better.

(Remember, just install this driver, you don't need the whole 4-in-1 pack.  MAKE sure you pick "turbo mode.")

Was having an annoying lockup problem in Aces High & Netscape.  Downloading & installing the latest Via Drivers seems to have fixed it.

Too funny Bloom I guess I made a good choice in cards then.  I already loaded up the vid card before doing the VIA drivers. I could not link to the 1.05 but downloaded the older version. I opened it from the winzip selfdownload thingy and it self extracted in a seperate DOS screen. Does this mean i successfully downloaded it?

Do you mean 4.05?  Or did you get 4.03d?  Either one is fine.  What you did was just uncompress it.  You now need to find out where you decompressed it to and run the setup program.

Usually you extract the file with winzip to a directory.  You then find the directory you put it in and run the setup file.
