My immediate reaction to the OP was that just maybe HT is turning away possible future paying customers and the future of the genre.  After all, get them interested, get them addicted, get them wanting more then drag them in is an age old marketing ploy.  That said I'm sure HT has data that says most free H2H plaers never converted otherwise, even with the problems, H2H never would have closed.

But what if they introduced a tiered structure?  1 or 2 vs. 1 or 2 room free, 8 vs 8 room $5, 8 vs 8 vs 8 room $10, full access $15 or something like that.  Then there's a plan for everyone.  It works for other entertainment venues; cable TV, Netflix, Movies (matinees vs evening rates) etc. and lets face it, in the end those are the same discretionary entertainment dollars HT is competing for.  I've been poor for a while now and these were my choices.  I lowered my cable to hold onto AH at least for now.  That might change at some point as I don't play that much anymore.

My 2 cents.

Here's another idea:  $5 WWI, $8 WWI, AVA, $10, WWI, AVA, EW, $12 WWI, AVA, EW, MW, $15 Total Access.

Maybe fill some of the lesser used arenas.

A month of AH access is what, a couple of hours' work at minimum wage? A lawn or two mowed once a month? (I have no idea what kids get paid to mow lawns these days, but that's about what it would be if you adjust what I got paid thirty years ago for inflation.) About the same as a movie with popcorn and soda? I don't see how a better entertainment value could be possible, or why a free online version of any sort is necessary.

I do like the idea of some free TA time, but I doubt many newbies would take it unless they could tack it onto the END of their two weeks. For people unacquainted with the game it takes a few brutal days in the MA to realize how badly some time in the TA is needed!

Turning customers away that do not want to pay is not bad business. :D

The model that HT had before as a gas station....

They give away 2 gallons of gas a week to whomever wants it. It gets you enough to see what it can do but you can't go far.

Next you can get as much as you want for 5 cents a gallon. You can go all you want for a really great price.

What HT and crew have done is pretty darn impressive.

Or we could just wait for Shuff to open his canopy each time, should be plenty of hot gaseous air coming out of there!  :bolt:
