I was just reading sky25's
post, and especially noticed the bits about how the 65-ft AGL setting for dot dar makes incursions into enemy territory (flying between the radar rings) all but impossible. A way to fix this, while still partially preserving the new radar settings, would be to have a graduated minimum altitude for dot dar. For example, when a plane is in the region from the dar ring to 12 miles from the base, the minimum altitude for dot dar could be 200 feet. From 12 miles to 6 miles, it could be 125 feet, and from 6 miles to the base itself, it could be 65 feet.
In fact, this would probably be more realistic than the current settings, since in reality the Earth's curvature would prevent a radar from picking up objects on the deck when further away from the radar station.
I think that this idea would work, since the bases would still be more difficult to capture than before (since any enemy within 6 miles of the base and over 65 feet would show up on dar), but it would also bring back the fun, risky and tactically interesting method of sneaking NOE's deep into enemy territory - something which has vanished with the new dar settings.
