1600 32 bits and Gforce Pro 64 MO ?
« on: March 23, 2001, 11:38:00 AM »
I am planning to buy a leadtek gforce pro 64 MO with a 19" monitor able to display 1600x1200  at 75 Hz . my processor is a celeron 566 oc 850 MHz ( about the same perfs than a P3 750 mhz).

What framerate can I expect in 1600 32 bits in AH specially with fields full of smoke ?

thanks for your advices and experiences.

which card? GeForce 2 Pro?

With 64MB of ram on it, I'd guess you'd be looking at the very least around 60fps at most times... maybe 40 in smoke...

I can get around that in 16bit with a 32MB GeForce2 MX...  your extra 32mb of ram should make a big difference, but 32 bit is a huge video hog, so who knows...

You can't compare Geforce 2 with MX..

They perform completely different at 32bit..

I get around 75fps 1024x768x32 with my old 256 SDR =)

There is a HUGE difference between the Gf2 Mx and non Mx versions.  (Half the chips rendering pipelines are disabled on the Mx.)

64Mb of memory vs 32 Mb won't likely make any difference in todays games.  AH only seems to use about 15.8 MB of texture memory at 1024x768 32 bit color.  Even at 1600 res this won't top 32MB.

I can't honestly tell you what framerate to expect, I don't know what the specs are on the rest of your system.  IE. 7200 rpm Udma HD?  Ram (pc 100, pc 66, pc 133)? DX version? Soundcard? etc.

Regardless I'd think that the game would be plenty fast at that res.  Smoke will still kill framerates though.  I haven't seen a system yet that didn't take a BIG hit in framerate in the smoke.

I put up the CPU tests for the GF2 GTS Pro 64MB on my site.  It might give a clue as to what to expect. http://www.benchdata.com/gf2_gts_pro/

You can look at the 16 and 32 bit test results there.  It i a comparison of how the card performs with 600E, 800E, 800EB, and 933EB CPU's.
EB = 133MHz FSB and E = 100MHz FSB

Hope that helps.
