Help with Vid. card
« on: March 23, 2001, 07:35:00 PM »
Hey, since i bought my GeForce 2 64mb card it's only giving me a tops of 59 FPS in game with my P3 800 192 ram system.  I think that is very wrong and i would like to know if anyone has suggestions on how to get more FPS out of it.

p.s. im also running in 1024 x 768 and 32 bit color.

Actually that seems like pretty good numbers.  I'm running a Geforce2 64mb with a PentIII 933 and my Aces High benchmark number in 1024x768 is 55.  I'm using an Abit BX6-R2 which is only AGPx2.  Check out the Aces High benchmark page and compare some other numbers.

Yea it's fine for me, but my squad mate is pushing 70 FPS with a 32mb GeForce2.  It seems kind of odd to me.

Nacho, I think it may be the refresh rate.
I was running in the 70s at 1024 X 768 with no tweaks.  But at 1280 10whatever my fr dropped in th 50s at 60hz refresh check refresh and bring up to 85hz and check it again (if your monitor can handle it) my vid card defaults my refresh at 85 but i change it to run a higher resolution

Pollock's right, it's because your screen is refreshing at 60Hz.  (Can't believe you don't get a headache looking at the screen.   )

You need to check the information on your monitor and then turn up the refresh rate.

Refresh rate can be changed at: right click desktop -> properties -> settings tab -> advanced button -> adapter tab -> refresh rate selector pull down menu.

Be aware you *might* damage your monitor if you pick a refresh rate that is too fast for it to handle.  Usually windows will switch it back in time, but that's why I say to check the monitor specs.

Athlon 800
V5 5500
1280x1024x23
50-54 FPS

considering the Ge-Force is SUPPOSED to be faster than the V5 and that you are running at a lower res than I, it must be a refresh prob.....

Was that a typo, or do you actually mean the 3dfx 16bit mode wich is supposed to be actually 24bit?

Cause if so you are comparing your framerates against his and he is using 32bit mode, wich is very different.
