I had a feeling that wasn't it, I didn't even have Java installed on this machine since my last format and I'm still having issues.

Like I said, the Java crash during update appears to be a symptom of the same problem causing Aces High to dump.  I can replicate a crash of Windows 7 64 bit occurring during an update.  32 bit Windows 7 seems to be fine, but I am going to do a thorough check of it using the same procedures used for the 64 bit version.
