DX8 & W98, a good combination?
« on: March 27, 2001, 05:43:00 AM »
Any issue about Dx8? Any performance increase? Any compatibility problems? Is it worth to install?

GForce DDR + K7 + W98 + Dx7 here.

Having no problems at all with Win98 and Dx8a

Performance is the same.
You will have to install it soon if you want to play the newer games.

Don't go to DX8 unless your sound and video card drivers are updated with versions that support DX8.

Get those first, then DX8 MIGHT be ok.

However, it can explode RW.  Works for me, but some have problems.

Had to go to Dx8 for the Operation Flashpoint demo...

No problems so far - had to install another driver to use CH pedals with Saitek X36, but that's all.

Same performance...

Troubles with RW. When engaged, can't switch to desktop without hanging my puter. Apart from that, no problems.

Latest Win98 updates loaded, latest drivers for me video card, running DX8.0 and no problems whatsoever except the typical RW losing host now and then (solved this by doing it the old fashioned way by giving squaddies an IP without using auto-RW within AH.)

Had DX8.0a on and had lock up problems. Uninstalled it and went back to DX7.0a, works fine again.

System:
1.2gig Tbird
Asus AV7 mobo
Geforce2 Pro 64 meg
Soundblaster PCI128
Windows98

I have the latest Det3 drivers from Nvidia and latest Win98 drivers, but it didn't seem to help
