i would like to give making skind for aces high a try can anyone help me out with getting started on that  any help would be greatful ty

i went and checked it out and downlaoded the 1024 texture thing and when i got to the video settings it not showing me the same box as that that is on tutorial what can i do

ok thank you the imfo i went and did as was insrtucted in tutorial  and when i went in to change the video setting the it didnt show the same box that was on the tutorial why is that and what should i do once agian i say thank you sir for taking the time to help me

An intelligible and concise question will reap greater rewards. However, the High resolution texture pack will allow usage of higher graphics setting in game. It will allow you also to save default skin you plan to work on to be utilized as a 1024 pixel bmp file, rather than 512 pixel bmp file. I'm not entirely certain of this, but it's an educated guess.

hi shuzzy this is pyhton2  i fly in aces high with the DHBG i want to make some skins for a few planes and test my skills i got all i need to do it. i just need to know that after saveing skins to my aces high folder  can i take each peice one at a time and work on them or will the be all bunched up on page and also how can i get a blank of the b-17 bombers i think with me just starting out that would be the easy way for me to go thank you

once you save the default skin it will show in the aces high folder under skins.
EG your b17 skin will show up,you then need to make another folder and name it b17g_1
now open up the origional b17 folder and copy the bitmap fileof the body and wings and the material file to your
new folder.Now you can start skining.
You can open the bitmap file in whta ever softwear you are using to make the skin,Remember to use layers and always save your layered work
before you shrink it back down to a bitmap.

Good luck and you cant just get a blank  to start with

pytho2, the folks that do the custom skins know far more about it than I ever will.

The updated planes have the external skin contained in one or two bitmaps.  That is the way they have to be worked on.

I've tried it that way whiteman, but the problem is that at least the way I do my skins, the majority of the work needs to be done in photoshop, and sometimes moving the panel lines from Illustrator to PS don't look perfectly crisp, so I've gone back to making panel lines with a 1 pixel "pencil" in PS.

Now, logos, nose art, etc, that's a different story, as I WANT those to look more smooth than crisp at times. Still do them primarily in PS but occasionally use Illustrator and copy and past into PS on a new layer.

Thanks, I use illustrator and photoshop all day at work and it just seemed that illustrator would be the way to go but maybe not. Thanks.

Pytho, if you check out the tutorial in my signature link you'll get a pretty good breakdown of how to get to the editing part. How you edit it is up to you, but that link will help you get to the editing stage.

That said, you only want the external parts of the plane in question. When you "Save default skin" you get everything from damage to instruments to blood and oil splatters. Ignore all of these. You only want the parts of the wings and fuselage. On newer planes this is all on 1 single bitmap file. On some older planes they separate the wings and fuselages on separate bitmap files.

Also, as a side note, it would help to try and type the question as clearly as possible. I'm having a very hard time understanding you without punctuation or grammar. Take no offense, it's just hard to understand what you want.


EDIT: P.S. There are no "blanks" -- you build your own from the ground up BUT, you can use the default for a lot of things to help you along like panel lines, details, you can draw many little hints and tips on what you should do from the originals (sometimes). Definitely check out my tutorial as it will cover starting out like importing the file into your graphics software, how to work with layers, etc.
