National World War I museam

Hey guys, just took a trip up to Kansas City, Mo with me son to go to this WWI museum.  If you ever in the area, this is one place you got to go and see.  Never have i seen a something this complete on WWI.

Did not see what this artillery is. 


British 5 in. heavy filed gun, Mk I


U.S. 4.7in field gun, model of 1906


French 37mm semiautomatic gun


U.S. 24in heavy trench mortar, Mark I, 1918


German model 08/15 light machine gun used on the Zeppelin.  7.92 mm


Machine gun to a German aircraft.  did not catch the name.

Can not forget the real aircraft that they have.

French made Renault FT17 Tank.  its back end got hit by German artillery.

Yea, it is about 1 mile south of downtown KC, Missouri.  Make sure you have time, because there are so much stuff to see and read that it could take a full day.

Shoot, I live less than an hour from that and I've never been.  I'll have to plan a trip up there soon.

Yeah, the museum under the Liberty Memorial is pretty great. We went there for a school field trip. Don't forget the little darts that were the early A2G weapons over in the section. The aircraft in the American Expeditionary Group (or whatever it was called) is a Nieuport 15 (I think, it was a long while). I'm pretty sure all the aircraft were replicas. Also, stop by the gift shop. Only place in KC that has great posters and WWI model kits.

I found the glass bridge over the poppy field very striking. Poignant even, as we had just read All Quiet on the Western Front. (Trip to a history museum for English class, go figure XD)

It is a Nieuport 11 or Nieuport 16.

Yes, that is a interesting entrance to the museum.  It set up to separate the main part of the museum from the rest, as if stepping back to the war.    Each poppy represent 1000 (if i am not mistaking)  lives that where lost in the war.

We just left KC the other day. I didn't know about the WW1 museum until just before we left. We are looking for next year for a visit. We went back to the Steamship Arabia museum instead. Now we are in Harrison Arkansas for a week.
