8 Killed at Race.........
« on: August 16, 2010, 10:14:20 AM »
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IW4HWWoIrS4

Then the crowd goes after the driver for slamming into 8 dumbarses that are willing to stand right next to where vehicles are flying down the road at break neck speeds.........

What is this world coming to..... no sense of taking any responsibility.

This may sound mean but for some reason, I feel bad that they had to die for there ignorance, but I really don't since they were aware of the potential risk or at least should have.

Since when does the U.S. media use the Queen's english (plough), especially in California?  :huh

Always puzzled me why people would be wanting to stand so close to a course knowing the dangers...most especially an off road course.

I hope no children were hurt/killed.  Adults know the risk and take it.

Unfortunately I'm not surprised by this tragic accident. In both off-road racing, and rally racing the spectators are very close to the cars travelling at high speeds usually with nothing more than a piece of rope stretched across T-posts between them.

 :pray for all those involved.

It looks like a newscast from another country covering a story in America... I saw some references to Moscow in the ticker as well...

It was just a matter of time. I like watching the Baja races and there's dozens of close calls with spectators every race.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.

The organizer's instructions for spectators were to be no closer than 100 ft from the track.  The video I saw showed the crowds at about 5ft from the track with individuals straying onto the track, some as far as the middle of it.  This is the spectator's fault and responsibility.

I was amazed that the driver had to flee after the crowd started to attack him. Those people were standing 2 feet from the trucks as they flew past at high speed, I'm amazed more didn't get hurt. Sadly the driver will probably be charged with murder or something like that and sent to jail for the rest of his life while the "victims" sue his family for everything they have.

Latest I've heard is driver isn't currently facing any charges at all - the spectators were at fault, sorry if that sounds harsh. My heart goes out to their families, but the driver wasnt at fault - rules are there for a reason (yeah, I know, we have too many rules in our lives already), but some are basic common sense - if a truck weighing over 2 tons, travelling in excess of 50mph takes off, the driver has no control - if you are over 100 ft from the track, your relatively safe, if your stood 5ft from the track (by your own decision), its your fault.

I'm glad to hear the driver won't be charged with anything as it's not really his fault. It just amazes me at the stupidity of people in blaming the driver when they're standing mere feet away from flying trucks.

I saw an interview with a person that was there and he made the comment "there was definitely alcohol involved" referring to the spectators.

you should see the crowds during the Baja 1000, spectators running across the course, many of them are like playing chicken with the racers and some have crashed avoiding them, you get to close and get hurt its not the drivers fault
