Bombers
« on: August 16, 2010, 05:50:46 PM »
A couple of thoughts on bombers.

1.  Have dot commands or a drop menu that allows:
     a) Change formation.  i.e. wedge, echelon right or left, etc.
     b) Change distance between aircraft.  i.e. 50-500ft.

2.  Have dot commands or a drop menu for amament
    a)  Set bomb fuse delay from 1-10 sec.
    b)  Have parafrag bombs
    c)  Have skip bombs
    d)  Have AI gunners that can be over ridden by pilot or person in gunners position.

A few of the above ideas can be applied to medium bombers using low altitude tactics such as B-25's  or Fighter bombers in their roll.

Echelon formation will give you one heck of a blind spot as far as gun coverage is concerned. However distance between formation I agree with.

No need for auto delay of that length, just press bomb release again. Parafrag and skip bomb have no real practical use in game as yet, at least nothing standard ord wont do. AI gunnery is asking for trouble, I could just hang at the edge of the gun range and wait for the ammo to run out.

Love the idea.  What will bomb fuse delays do. are we talking about it land on the ground then explode on designated time.

The delay fuse allows for bombers, i.e. B-25's and fighter bombers to come in low and make their drops and have time to escape before they detonate.  Parafrag bombs also allow this method of bombing.  I would also like to see that these bombs are limited to aircraft that used them.  Otherwise B-24's and B-17 would not have them available.

The use of different formation for bombing can be set just prior to drop.  It allows the formation to adjust to the target.  It would be up to the pilot to determine if the formation is worth the lost of defensive protection.

AI gunners can be limited to a set engagement say 800-1000m max.  Their accuracy can be limited and their purpose directed to enemy air detection or give the buff a chance while on the bomb run.

Setting distance between buffs allows for greater coverage of the target.
