replacement of CPU fan...removing old?
« on: June 11, 2001, 06:03:00 PM »
Errr I have a thunderbird 1.2gig on a A7A266MB. I bought me a better fan/HS I think BUT when I tried to remove the old fan... it doesnt wish to come lose. There is a latch or something on one side and it looks like you push it down but whn I do so it will not come lose. I'm nervous about forcing it... any tips, suggestions?

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

Refer to other post about my alcohol intake  lmao

OK bat do this ..........

There is a clip holding the HS down and yes it has to be pushed down

Now this is what tends to happen....

As you push the clip down you will see it stays vertical to the HS (eg it stays under the little hook/latch that it holds on to)

As you apply pressure to the retaining clip/spring gizmo or wtf ya wanna call it you have to carefully pry the bottom of the clip away from the HS (i use a tiny screwdriver)
As soon as you see the clip come past the hook on the Zif (plastic thing ya cpu plugs into) pry the clip away n release pressure on the clip it should rise past the hook, Now let her up gently not like a bull at a gate

There ya go one undone hs clip

Have Fun
