240Hz LED...at this point, top of the food chain. (note- depends on the brand too)

Otherwise 240Hz standard LCD.

Plasma 600Mhz...sure they consume more power but they have a better refresh rate and the colors are much better. Besides the new ones last longer than the LED or LCD televisions.

:O That's pure conjecture. The latest generation of plasma hasn't been out long enough to even consider life expectancy. Still a hit and miss. The picture quality on the plasma is only marginally better when you go over the 47 inch mark and they are even from 42 down, the lighting has to be in normal to low light environment where the brightness of the plasma has an edge. Put it in a brighter lit area and the LCD doesn't look washed out, or bothered by glare. The one area where plasma constantly trumps LCD is motion blur, doesn't happen on plasma where even with 240Hz refresh rates, it can be noticeable on LCDs. Plasma still has an issue with image burn in, though even semi intelligent people don't let them sit for days with a static image on the screen. Plasma still uses twice as much power as LCD and they get hot.

i have a 46" LCD Samsung great pic really nice TV. then i saw the 46" Samsung LED, i did a side by side comparison at the store ( they still had my model) the salesman hooked them up side by side, needless to say i bought the LED, the picture is far more crystal clear it almost looks real, like you want to reach out and touch it, Now my LCD has the same processor speed (240MHz) and built in games, internet capable, PC capable, Keyboard/mouse  7.1 Digital sound and so on, i like the fact that the LED unit comes equipped the same features as the LCD, which now occupies my office

I personally like higher end Plasmas over higher end LCDs.  To me, the blacks are darker and the colors are richer.

I never cared for the 120Mhz and 240Mhz function on the newer LCDs.  It feels like I'm watching a daytime soap opera.

46 inch Sony Bravia LCD is what I run. Had it for just over a year now and I love it. Combined with HDTV and so on it has a very clear picture, great sound (combined with surround sound) and both DVD's and BluRay look fantastic.

In my opinion, comes down to what you can afford.

Currently 23" LCD I'm running was only 199$

If I could afford it, I'd jump all over a 42" plasma, but until the price gets down below 300$ I just don't see that as a viable option for me.

The one chance I had to see the same display on both LCD and Plasma, plasma was the clear winner for color and clarity.

I sell these things, and last Christmas I pulled the trigger and bought one.

I sell samsung, toshiba, sony, panasonic, etc, and also looked at brands we don't sell at Best Buy.

The 46" Samsung LED picture was superior to anything I could find.

Its 120hz refresh rate is more than adequete for my needs.

When I looked at 120hz models vs. 240 Hz models, my eye could not see ANY difference. :O

Picture settings is all that comes down to. Used to be one of my favorite tricks to get more commission on a sale. The high end units didn't pay as much commission as the mid range units did...sooo...a little "fine tuning" made the mid-range units a little more appealing. That and picking the right demo to use for both sets.

Being a customer, before you buy, get into the menus and reset to default then check to see what standard adjustments do to the picture quality.

Yeah, I do that when looking at TVs.  I also read quite a bit before I go into a store (electronics, car dealer, anything really), so I'm narrowed down to a handful or less of the particular item.

But, that said, I have several friends who have high end A/V equipment, and their Kuros are just more pleasing to me than the high end Sony and Samsung LCDs some other friends have.  I've really never compared smaller LCDs to Plasmas.

I'm still running a 57" Sony Rear Projection monstrosity, but it won't die.  Not that I'm complaining about not having to shell out cash for another TV!

1Boner - do you use the motion effect often, or mainly for sports.
