OLED. :noid

Hafta to sell my car to get one,

And last I heard, the biggest screen they could make was somewhere around 9 inches.

Things may have changed since I last read about them, BUT, I'd bet you'd still have to sell your soul to get one. :devil

There's not very much difference at all any more between the infamous "black levels" on LED or plasma.

I've yet to decent a decent Black Level on an LED.   They still champion the "burn-in" on Plasmas and those days are long gone.

I'm a huge Crutchfield fan, and they have some of the best information on the web with respect to comparisons, IMO...

Mmmmm, I see it every day.

I agree with about the "burn in" on plasmas, those days ARE long gone.

However!, I have a 55" Samsung LED hanging on the wall in the same room as a 60 some odd inch Samsung plasma.

Standing in front of both, you'd be real hard pressed to see any difference in "black" levels.

Of course there are "instruments" for measuring the differences in black levels and contrast ratios, BUT those differences for the most part cannot be seen by the human eye.

Kinda like the 120 vs. 240 refresh rate myth.

If I calibrated 2 tvs, 1 with 120 and 1 with 240 hz. I'd bet you could not tell me which one was which.

The same holds true for the LED vs Plasma "black" levels.

The average Joe cannot tell the difference.

But if you're talking a 60 refresh rate, now there you will see quite a difference between 60 and 120.

Bottom line with no further pissing contests.   Dark Room = Plasma or Front Projector.

Concur Mash

I've got a 46" Samsung plasma that I really like (under $450 last December) but, based on what I'm hearing and reading, if I wanted to buy something for the living room which is always bright I might want to consider the LED or LCD or get better curtains (probably cheaper).

Thanks for all the help gents especially the link to Crutchfield.  I seriously had forgotten about them and I used to buy all of my E stuff from them.

I went down this path a year and a half ago as my first HDTV.  After researching between LCD and Plasma (LED was just hitting the market) and viewing different models in the store I pulled the trigger on a Panasonic Viera 42" Plasma.  Uses about 480-500 Watts when on, but boy I love this TV.  I have a smaller Samsung LCD in the bedroom, but I;d take Plasma almost every time compared to what I've experienced in the real world with LCD at friends/family/bars etc.

I have a 42" LG LCD and its great...been tweaked to the max and its a wonderful set...however it doesn't hold a candle to the 52" Samsung Plasma that is going to take its place in the main viewing room downstairs when I get that finished. I picked it up last winter after going and looking at the LED Samsungs that were being praised as the best. HH Gregg had all the Samsung line up arrayed from low end to high end plasma. I bought the Plasma that was next to the super high end LED LCD...why...simply because in my view it was better than the high end LED. When I went to check out I got a surprise in the fact that the plasma was $800 LOWER in price than the LED for the same size and better quality.

Think I have the same unit Fulmar.

I do know that my wife and I have been totally happy with the 42" plasma we have in the living room.
Our friends complain that all we do is stay home and watch TV. :)

I recently bought a Samsung 55" LED.  I've been very pleased with the color and sharpness.

The LED is super thin too, and was fairly light.  I hung it on the wall myself, fished the wires and put a new electrical outlight behind it (appearantly you're not supposed to run the plug wire into and out of a wall).  Saved about $600 on the installation from the Best Buy geek squad.

LED is the newest stuff on the block though, so you pay a premium for it.  The plasmas are really marked down now.

I personally like higher end Plasmas over higher end LCDs.  To me, the blacks are darker and the colors are richer.

I never cared for the 120Mhz and 240Mhz function on the newer LCDs.  It feels like I'm watching a daytime soap opera.

I feel the same way, it looks really odd, like you say a daytime soap opera!
