Boogers - BFG Tech is going out of business!
« on: August 19, 2010, 01:36:13 PM »
I just tried to RMA a failing BFG Tech GTX 295 purchased less than a year ago and was told that they aren't accepting RMA's because they are closing down - and that if they did take it, they'd simply return it unrepaired.   :cry

Sure enough, a search turned up this article:

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/bfg-tech-winding-down-lifetime-warranty-no-longer-being-honored/9315

Yes indeed ladies and gentlemen!  I'm now the proud owner of a $465 paperweight ...  :cry  (or at least, my place of work is, I'm glad it wasn't one I owned personally ...)

If anyone hears of anything from NVIDIA regarding support of the BFG Tech cards, please PM me (or post for everyone, that would work too.)

Sorry Ghastly...not a good situation for you.

I bought one BFG item over the years and it did not perform anywhere close to specs. Good thing it was cheap. That company has been pushing sub standard hardware with greatly inflated specs for years. I don't think even HIS makes anything as crappy as BFG.

BFG had initially said they would honor RMA's, but then NVidia pulled the plug on them and that pretty much killed any chance of getting an RMA and pushed them right out of business.

Seems BFG was looking to go with ATI, due to the NVidia Fermi issues. NVidia found out and the rest is history.

They'll be selling them and telling customers that they have a life time return policy even after BFG has shuttered the doors.

A shame, had 2 excellent experiences with their tech support and RMA process.  Haven't bought any of their stuff for about 5 years, currently running EVGA.

The computer I'm typing this uses a BFG power supply :uhoh .  I did have a BFG video card but its now collecting dust as I've upgraded past it.  They went out of business once before, and then came back... should have been a warning sign I guess.  If they come back a third time maybe then they'll honor your warranty.

It is not that they did not want to honor warranties.  NVidia pulled the replacement plug on them so they could not get any stock to replace the bad cards with.

Well I am glad that I haven't had a BFG card in my primary system in quite a while...but the one I have is still running like a champ in my massive Chieftec case.

They'll be selling them and telling customers that they have a life time return policy even after BFG has shuttered the doors.

That would be a crime. I'd buy one and sue them for a few millions. :)
