JRTC experiences(Military folk)
« on: August 22, 2010, 12:17:03 PM »
Im going to JRTC in a few short months and I was wondering what some of you vets thought/hated/liked ect ect about it. My battalion is supposed to be doing alot of Air Assault missions there since that is what we will be doing in Afghanistan but Im not banking on it just because of the funds that go into that kinda of OP. We did get to do one last week which was ballsy as hell  :rock

Ft Polk is one of the worst places on the planet.  The only pluses it had to Baghdad were weekends off and the class 6.

The ants know battle drill 6.  Watch out!  I used to come home and they were practicing it in my bed.

Pretty much everything else there wants to eat you too, including some things that were released from Jumanji and a few of the locals.

The mosquitoes are the size of helicopters.

The wasps are bigger.  One almost took my windshield wiper one day.

The Pizza Hut up at North Fort isn't too bad.  If you get a chance, Huddle House and Hickory Smoke House on main post are worth it.

Avoid the Country Inn and Suites...

Do it. It sucks something horrible but it is worth it in the long run. I screwed the pooch when I didnt go to parachute school, but air assault is freaking fantastic. Far and away some of the best times I have ever had.

Plus, when you do get overseas you get to participate in some of the more "interesting" missions. Glad to see you have a pair junky. Take all the classes and opportunities the Army will throw at you. <S>
