It would be easy to spend an entire day at Paine Field (25 miles N of Seattle) with a structured tour to all of the museums and facilities. I work on the airfield and can act as a liaison to the venues.
These are the highlights that are right on the airfield:
Future of Flight/Boeing Factory Tour (747, 777, and 787 lines)
John Sessions' Historic Flight Foundation (B-25, Tigercat, Bearcat, P-51B, +more)
Paul Allen's Heritage Flight Museum (P-47, P-40, A6M, P-51D, Fw-190D13, F6F, T-34 tank, 88mm flaks, +more)
Museum of Flight's Restoration center (Wildcat, XFU-1 Crusader, F7U Cutless, 727-100 #1, DeHav Comet, +more)
Me-262 Restoration facility
Best times:
Weekend Fly days, held every two weeks during the summer flying season, are good. In April thru late May you're likely to catch many of the airplanes flying as pilots renew their annual qualifications in preparation for the summer flyging season. September through early October will also maximize the chances of seeing all of the available airplanes in these museums.
Worst times:
Many of the vintage airplanes and warbirds are likely to be at other venues in the region attending airshows during the summer. During the winter season, many of the airplanes are sent to off-site facilities for repair and maintenance.
