Online AI for mission planners
« on: August 27, 2010, 11:47:32 AM »
Yeah I know, "He's at it again."

Usually, I wish for things specifically for AvA arena which doesn't include the more important Main arenas.

This wish is for all arenas.

The capability for AI to fill unclaimed mission slots so mission planners can create missions that will launch regardless of the arena numbers.

And who will intercept those AI planes? If overall numbers are so low that you can't get players for your mission, chances are that the enemy can't provide defenders as well.

True, but it won't hurt anything and will give an opportunity for fewer players to find some sort of action at low number times, and will allow an escorted bombing mission even if there are only a few players that only want to fly the escorts.

At least in AvA, we could also create an intercepting mission for the other side.

It would really bite to see 4 players, and 96 AI planes coming to a base.

No.  This won't fly.

EDIT: I can understand in wanting to find a fight, but the AI is sub-par in Aces High.  Example is, you'd have P-47's, fully loaded, out maneuvering anything you take up, and nab ya.

Points taken,

From when CombatTour was shelved

We’re going to pull the CT AI mission system and redevelop it for use by CM’s in scenarios and special events.

This would be more applicable to a CM run arena like SEA or AvA which is what my wish is really for.

By using it to augment human pilot missions, only filling in unused slots, it would still be much different from offline missions as you would never know what you were running into, and would allow more flexibility and creativity in scripting scenarios etc.

It might require some AI improvement and might only be reasonable for Bomber or transport roles as I think that would be easier to stomach than battling AI fighters.

Ummm, I like my AI being sub-par  :lol  Hit 'em a couple of times and the AI pilot ejects  :rofl  I like the idea for the purposes that Jimson is referring to.

I just watched a History Channel show on the P38.  One pilot interviewed described their escort battles as huge, with fighters coming from every direction.  Now that would keep me from falling asleep at the keyboard  :O

I'm pretty sure the mission maker/staff would use common sense using AI numbers.

+10 to be able to use AI in the AvA.

Now, for AvA and SEA's, yes.  I could see this flying quite high.  The main problem is, the AI is sub-par.  As Chilli mentioned, the AI tends to bail out of a plane at the drop of a hat.  I ping from your 7.7mm in your A6M2 does the trick (sometimes. Usually takes a few pings).  They need to revamp the AI before this would actually be any fun in the long run.  Sure, you'll have some fun at first, but after awhile, bleh.  "I know this plane is gonna go down after a few hits..."  *daka, daka, daka* "Yep, there's the bail...."  Now if we had an AI, say, on the level of Aces of the Pacific or Aces Over Europe (at least), then it could be quite interesting.  At least those FULLY loaded P-47's couldn't out turn, out climb and out roll you.  :lol

That's only because I just don't see HTC putting any development into the AvA, so I look for a way to twist something into being beneficial for other arenas too, when I am really wishing for something for AvA.

Kind of failed on that this time.

Actually Jimson,

You reminded us that the AI plane was developed with Combat Tour in mind.  Those of us who liked the promise of some new gameplay developments, are more than glad to ponder what HTC could cook up in their bubbling cauldron of Aces High brew.

The more  :airplane: :airplane: :airplane: The more   :joystick: :O

That's true Chilli, but with 200 in one arena and 20 or 30 in here on a good night, where do you think Hitech would rather put his efforts?

On the other hand, I still think there is enough of a market that helped by a little automation, AvA could be turned into a successful "Combat Tour Lite."

What we are working on is the replacement of the H2H. This basically will let anyone bring up an arena, the sizes have yet to be determined. Including adding their own terrains to the system with out HTC's intervention.

Part of the scope of this project is also including the AI mission system into the arena's configuration.
