Did you know that the car in that movie is the same 55 in American Graffiti....the one Harrison Ford drives. I read that a while back in HotRod magazine.

I did not!
if that is true then they did a lot of work to it in between films, I really got a kick out of the Plexiglas side windows and how much trouble they went to , to make every detail about the car being a race car.
but then  some of the races were crap,  the funny cars went all the way down the track on there burnout runs and the 55 missed a gear on his solo pass yet ran a low 12 the announcer said

found this website about the 55

http://kathyschrock.net/graffiti/55.htm

it gives a pretty good detail of the 55,  when you first posted about the 55 being the same car i was confused, I thought "Graffiti" was filmed later, and i was right, but there were 3 "55's" and they did change out the doors as well as a few other things, I knew i did not see the motor in "graffiti" and thought the story called for a 310,(327/ 283 cross),, the same motor my dad had in his 55 Chevy that ran mid 11's in the late sixties!
they never showed the car motor in  the second movie leading me too think they rebuilt the car after "Graffiti" for two lane, but the dates did not work and Hollywood does do some strange stuff so it now makes perfect sense!

this is another web site for Two lane blacktop,
only two of the three cars still exist,   the camera car for Two lane is now restored to the "Two lane" car setup, while the other one is set up in "Graffiti" trim .

And the best chase scene ever?

Its in the 1st 5 minutes of Super Troopers, when the guys are parked on the side of the road and a cop pulls in behind them and yells through the loudspeaker "pull the car over".
