simple fact, hitler was the best advantage the allies ever had!!!!!

without his meddling into the business of his generals there is no chance that germany could have been defeated. every failure of the German military machine to maximize on position, striking power and technology was directly related to orders preventing the proper actions by hitler. read the history of his blunders, i cant think of another leader in history that was so incompetent!

all who curse hitlers name should actually have a holiday thanking which ever god they pray too for hitlers existence. the war was inevitable, the treaty of Versia (misspelled but you get the point) guaranteed it. it was a twist of fate that the rest of the world was lucky enough that hitler rose to the top of the political pile in germany during the 30's

Oak i didn't expect people to agree, just to think.

say hitler had been killed in late 39, there were over 50 attempts to kill him so this could have been a fact, if he and his cabinet had been killed in one of the bomb attempts against him that would have left people like Rommel and and other named generals and field marshals at the top of the food chain. none of them would have invaded Russia until Britain was either captured or reduced to a pile of ruble. then and only then when their backs were safe would they have turned their eyes to Russia, most would have declined the prospect as unworthy of the war for it. but none of them would have declared war on America, no matter what japan had done. germany fought that war once before and all smart generals new that without the ability to immediately decimate and destroy the American industrial machine then a war against America would become one of attrition and destined to fail.

only hitler in his profound ignorance saw things differently. had he been replaced by anyone else the war would have gone much differently, many many millions more would have died before the wars end. hitler was the greatest tool in the allied toolkit, his every decision butchered German soldiers at a pace that they could not be replenished in battles that in the end meant nothing.

one, and only one example of this......

he took complete personal control over the mechanized troops awaiting the allied invasion of France. they were held back from the front for hours after the invasion started, and they were held so far back that the time it took for them to get to the front gave the allies ample time to secure the beach heads. imagine how bloody d-day would have been if the allied forces landed directly under the guns of 3000 German armoured vehicles and the support troops that fought beside them?

face it, if not for hitler the war, horrible as it was, would have been nothing compared to the devastation wrought by a competent and intelligent commander running the show. so be thankful he was spared from all of the attempts made to end his life, had he died too soon the world would be a much different place.

i apologize if my intended point came out in any other way. i am NO fan of hitler!! he disgusts me!!!! i meant nothing less than his incompetence saved the lives of many allied soldiers and ensured a rapid and definitive allied victory.

I doubt Germany would have gone to war without hitler running the show. Although I agree that much of his senior staff could have waged a better war than him.

The seeds of the second world war were planted with the Treaty of Versailles.  Hitler was a product of his time.  If not him then someone else would led Germany to war.  The only thing that I agree with is that his military ineptness probably saved a lot of lives on our side.

Don't they teach modern history anymore?

sadly Sluggish i don't think they do teach it anymore. believe it or not a couple of years ago i was dating a woman who didn't know who hitler was!!!! honestly she had absolutely no clue who he was or what the Holocaust referred too!

now i am a major history buff type person and love to watch it read it and converse about it......so needless to say me and her didn't have much else to do with our time together than.........do laundry! alot of laundry!!!!!! (edited for younger viewers :) )

Babalonian, I believe those words are spelled hopefully, and sense.

Tupac, antisemitic sentiment had been around a looooong time before Hitler, and is still very much present today. When the Black Death struck Western Europe, the Jews were the first to be murdered by the mob of ignorant people looking for something to blame for their communities falling mortally ill all around them. To this very day many governments openly denounce Israel. He wasn't the first to persecute the Jews, nor would those of the Jewish faith have been spared had Hitler not come to power.

Dragon, that post was a bit towards the other end of the politically correct spectrum.

Thank you Professor BB  :D
