AP vs HVAP
« on: September 03, 2010, 11:00:27 AM »
Been getting into GV's lately but can't figure out when to use AP vs HVAP rounds. I've had the HVAP rounds go right through an enemy tank with no damage. I've also hit enemy tanks 5 or 6 times with both AP or HVAP rounds without destroying the enemy tank. Can someone explain to me the difference in the AP vs HVAP rounds and when best to use? Thanks.

HVAP have better armor penetration than plain AP at short distances, up to about 1000yds. Beyond that, you better select AP.
You can check gun penetration data for each tank in hangar, right-click on tank name on the clipboard list and select that option.

HVAP should be used only within 1,200 yards and closer I believe, after that the weight of the round loses it's effectiveness and becomes equal or less then your average AP round.

I got these from another player on here & they have been much more helpful than weather you're using HVAP/AP rounds. But Like he said, close in HVAP out at distance the AP rounds are heavier & retain more energy.   :salute  :aok

You know when you've been hit by an HVAP....there is a little 'clink' noise on side of your tank, and some nmy 1000 yards away is cursing a blue streak because all he saw was a teeny white sparkle when he expected to see a blinding flash

lol, aint that the truth. Always amusing when plucky T-34/76 or M4(75) drivers will continue to pump shells at your tiger from 1000yds out, only to have every single one of them bounce off the front armor. Even let one of them sit their while I was picking off panzers and M4's from the top of a hill, wanting to see how long he needed to stop shooting. The moron sat their for 5 minutes before I got bored and killed him  :rofl.

What is even more fun than destroying a tank w a Tiger, is to rush a Tiger with a team of 2-3 T34/76mm and even though one T34/76mm gets to be the sacrificial lamb, causing the Tiger player to panick/cuss-n-swear when they get that HVAP in the side or up the rear end.   ;)

HVAP is a sure thing when in range.  If you are impacting too far beyond the 800 yard mark on you T34x, it is best switch to the regular AP, or run like a little girl.   :)

If you look close at the top photo of the tiger, that is actually the front of the tank with the turret turned around. One of the best kills on a tiger is right under the cannon...also the most dangerous place to be.  :joystick:
