If your going to put kills on landing up then start with 1 Kill.  Why does it have to be two?

could u imagine what the text buffer would look like?!?  good god man, do u really want to see SYSTEM: 86556478 Has Landed 1 Victory In a (insert uber dweeb plane name here) over and over again?  i'd rather eat poop.  out of a cup.  with 2 girls.   :huh

It was originally one, but the spam got to be too much so it was changed to two.

Personally, I'd like to see it set at five.

You sure on that Karnak? We used to have a message every time you killed some one, I just don't remember a landed message with 1?

It would be so you could disable only your own kills landed text every time you landed 2 or more kills.

A subset of this could be that it disables your personal kill notification untill you kill 5 or more cons. Or some combination of options.

Disable Landed Kills Personal Text Message.
{ }-Disable the Kills landed Text Message for Yourself.
{ }-Disable Kills Text Message Until 5 or more kills Achieved.
{x}-Game Default Message, 2 or More Kills Landed.<-------By default this would start out checked upon game installation.

There may well be a strong message communicated by veteran players changeing their selection to "3 or more\5 or more kills" as a game cultural development statement to help newer players. And to give ack-ack more fodder for his commentary to other long time players. :)

Newbies need the default initially to keep them coming back. There are times I feel kind of silly seeing I landed 2 kills but, for some squads it's more about the pride of being part of something which the kill message tells the arena. The chorus of POTW "oink". I would have suggested a fourth option that the kill message is suppressed from everyone in the arena except for your squad until 5 or more kills are reached. But then some squads have multiple wings and not everyone in the squad would see it.

Maybe a selection more like this:

Disable Landed Kills Personal Text Message.
{ }-Disable the Kills landed Text Message for Yourself.
{ }-Disable Kills Text Message Until 5 or more kills Achieved.
{ }-Disable Kills Text Message Until 3 or more kills Achieved.
{x}-Game Default Message, 2 or More Kills Landed.

At first, this seemed overcomplicated for what you're getting.  Is it really worth it, is it really that big of a deal.  However, I remember how exciting it was early on when you got to land 2 kills, being able to bump up my landed kills might be a fun kind of challenge.

Or we can do what I do............  I set standards..........

If I'm in a dweeby Spixteen, I wont land 2 kills..... Has to be 3.

Actually, now that I think about it, that rule only applies to the Spixteen..............   :headscratch:
See Rule #4

Ack-Ack does have a point in his irrasabley abrasive manner.

If we are still impressed with seeing our name in lights with less than 5 kills in a sortie, what message are we sending in general? I put the 3 or more in there because I think there is a place for 3 kills being a valid good accomplishment on average. Also with some of our PC's and internet connections 3 kills is all the ammo we have. Changeing the message to 5 kills or more says alot about the person making that choice.

I'm looking at this as a self regulatory opportunity to raise the bar along with freindly community preassure to "man up and join in". It can be abused in a "my whangy is bigger" style of nonsense. And again we see on ch200 the rediculous garbage matches because a new player is ranked "69" a week into a new tour. But, if after some time all you see from a new player or old freinds is a 3-5 or more message. Maybe the game will improve along with what motivated players to restrict what message they wanted seen.

Being given choices is often a better motivation than simply telling players they are dirtbags for being impressed by something that they should know better. After all, some part of this game still works by respect or, these numbers wouldn't matter in the first place.

Uh.... ack-ack hasn't posted in this thread bustr, you know that right ?

Of course it will be abused. Some people just have to build themselves up, and put others down. Personally, I can't hold it against them, but it can get annoying. Same as when someone starts getting touchy about not being shown enough respect by someone who doesn't know him except as one game ID out of how many hundreds on each day.

AH would be a much more pleasant place it we could treat eachother as equals, maybe deferring to an older player's experience where applicable, rather than demanding respect because you have been playing fighter sim's for 10 or 15 years.

I'm showing my age and posts I have probably forgotten I've read...... :old:

Ack-Ack has spoken about this in the past. His observations then are just as salient as my use of them are now. I'm giving credit where it is due along with Karnak and a few other long timers who have spoken about this concept over the years.

Nemisis do you remember dialing into Genie with a 4800Bd modem????????..... ;)....... :old:

Ack-Ack's abrasiveness is not bound by single threads, it permeates and spreads though out the entire boards with no effort at all.

I dont see any good reason for the change..I see more opportunity for it to be abused than anything else..
