RAF Road to Berlin

Background
***********
1944
Germany is is being bombed around the clock.
For the past year the allied strategic bombers have
been operating in two shifts - Americans during the day
and British in night time. By end of summer 1944
the allies have gained complete air superiority
over Germany and the once mighty Luftwaffe
has been weakened so that the RAF decides to
renew its daylight bombing operations. Lancasters,
Halifaxes and Mosquitos are now flying over
Germany day and night. Spitfires and the occasionally
loaned P-51 units are used in the escort role.

Luftwaffe pulls more and more staffels and
Gruppen off the front line on the Eastern Front
to reinforce the Defense of the Reich. German
factories are building more airplanes than ever before,
but the huge daily casualties have taken their toll.
Bomber pilots are being converted to fighters.
Fighter pilot training is being shortened to meet the
need for pilots. In 1944 the pilot programme
had shrunk to 8 months and 111 flying hours;
just 20 hours on the Fw 190 and Bf 109.
This was less than half what the German cadets
could receive in 1942. American opponents had
at least 525 hours flying time. Relative losses
in combat were correspondingly disproportionate.

By the autumn, the Luftwaffe was seeking
anyone who already had basic experience
in flying, so they could bypass the primary
stages of flight school.

Nevertheless, Luftwaffe keeps fighting and high
command keeps promising the miraculous Wünderwaffen,
which would turn the tide.

This SEC event recreates the violent times of
1944 and 1945 when British bombers started
daylight operations.

German pilots take note!
There is a chance that few of the experten,
who have proven themselves in the first two frames,
will be given the chance to fly the world's first
operational jet and rocket fighters -
the Me 262 and Me 162 - in the third frame.

******************************************
Note!
Everybody has two (2) lives to use.
Once you have used all your lives, the game should
prevent respawning with message
"Your max deaths have been exceeded".

Bomber pilots take a special note!
Each drone killed by the enemy is a life lost for the player.
So if you takeoff with a formation and all three formation
planes get shot down, you have used all available
lives in this one sortie.

One note:  The Spitfire Mk IX is inappropriate to the setting.  There would have been no 1942 Merlin 61 Spitfires operating in that time and place.  If you want a Spitfire with .303s, the Spitfire Mk VIII is significantly more appropriate.

Spitfire Mk XIVs were, by this time, the dominant air-to-air Spitfire in the RAF for operation on the continent.

Thanks for the data Karnak!

We are looking for a person to lead the german fighter forces in this event, are there any volunteers? Who will have the courage to say "follow me!" and lead the best available german fighters and fellow pilots into the battle?

Also we are looking for more regular squadrons to join the SEC event. If you have never tried any SEC event, then come and give it a try during September. Now with the excellent new germany map from our Terrain Team, the fight is more glorious and realistic than ever before!

Here is the official SEC forum and discussion thread of the September event - http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,296209.0.html

See you there!  :aok

Additional to the SEC we have a rewarding system

Who will be rewarded?

I. An SEC consist of 3 frames played on 3 sundays on a row.

II. Pilots who attend all three frames and limit their deaths to once per SEC will qualify for an award.

Deaths, Captures, Ditches and Bails will all be scored.

Additionally, scores will be accumulated through all three Frames. Prestigious awards will be reserved for those with minimal deaths and higher scores.

III. Glory can be yours! Awards and recognition will be saved and documented and a pilots reputation can grow for future SEC’s. Awards apply for all participants

IV. CO’s who command and direct the operations from their bunkers will not be forgotten. Special recognition and awards of higher prestige can be awarded to CO’s for displays of comradeship, leadership, skill and respect for their opponent.

V. Awards are being saved and ones reputation adds up as good results
continue in future SEC’s. This works for pilots the same as for CO’s and
Squadrons.

Report unsportsmanlike conduct and behavior, which includes foul language and unfair gaming during the SEC. This can lead to the elimination of possible awards from the Hall of Aces site! Shooting at chutes is one of a classic bad sportsmanship and lead into a disqualifycation!

INDIVIDUAL PILOT AWARDS

    * SEC badge BRONZE/SILVER/GOLD
    * SEC wings BRONZE/SILVER/GOLD
    * SEC medal BRONZE/SILVER/GOLD with bar
    * SEC medal BRONZE/SILVER/GOLD with swords
    * SEC medal BRONZE/SILVER/GOLD with leaves
    * SEC Distinguished Service Medal: Awarded for
      distinguished leadership in action.
      BRONZE/SILVER/GOLD
    * SEC Long Service and Good Conduct Medal
    * BRONZE/SILVER/GOLD

    * EXTRA:

The SEC Valor Medal BRONZE/SILVER/GOLD is
awarded for acts of bravery in hazardous circumstances
that are considered worthy of recognition.

SQUADRON AWARDS

    * SEC Squadron badge BRONZE/SILVER/GOLD
    * SEC Squadron medal BRONZE/SILVER/GOLD with bar
    * SEC Squadron medal BRONZE/SILVER/GOLD with swords
    * SEC Squadron medal BRONZE/SILVER/GOLD with leaves
    * SEC Squadron Long Service and Good Conduct Medal

The Math behind the Medals and Badges
Add your kills plus 0,5 per assist
Devide the score by 4 if you died once,
devide by 2 for a safe bailed.
Example:
A pilots scored 18 Kills and 8 Assists in 3 frames,
killed once, and safty bailed one time
makes 22 points. 22 div by 4 = 5,5 being killed once
and 5.5 / 2 = 2,75 because bailed one time safly
Another one scored 13 Kills and 10 Assists,
but never being killed and bailed one time
makes 18 devided by 2. So its 9 points for him
So more kills doesent mean getting the higher Award!
Same Procedure for Bomber Pilots but destroyed Objects will be scored dividing by 3

9 Objects destroyed calculated with 3 Points

Good Luck!

Frame 2 of the RAF Road to Berlin will be played on next Sunday, September 19th, 3PM EST at Special Events Arena 2.

RAF Lancasters, Spitfires and some loaned USAAF P-51D's take on the Luftwaffe's finest over the skies of Germany. This time Luftwaffe brings the brand new long nosed Focke-Wulf, 190D-9, into play. Can the allied pilots counter this new menace?

Frame 3 of the RAF Road to Berlin will be played on next Sunday, September 26th, 3PM EST at Special Events Arena 2.

It is early spring 1945.

RAF Lancaster and Mosquito bombers, the latter armed with their terrible cookie blockbuster bombs, are now targeting the capital of Germany - Berlin! The new Hawker Tempest fighter is now deployed alongside the trusted Spitfires in the escort role.

Luftwaffe is but a shadow of the old, but continues to fight. New airplanes like Ta 152 are introduced, but time is running out. The much advertised wünderwaffen are finally here in the form of Me 262 and Me 163, but is it too late and too little?
