Labor Day

This Labor day was great! Went up to the Red River to my uncles place with my family and his family. We walked out in the river (deepest hole we found was only waist deep) and played in the sand on the huge sandbar (the sand up there is amazing. Its white and very, very fine and really deep.) I decided to dig a hole in the middle of the sand and wound up with a hand dug hole that was about 2 ft deep and 3 ft in diameter. I hit water at about 1 1/2 ft so it was almost impossible to go much deeper. Then to top it off I dug up a semi petrified limb.

Then after a couple hours out in the river some people came by headed up river on an airboat with 9 people on it. About 30 - 45 mins later he comes back with an empty boat and stops and talks. After a few minutes of conversation he invites us to take a ride on it. So 7 of us load up and we head up river. We were flying over sand bars and went about 4 miles up the river. Then he turned it around and we came back down the river rather quickly. After we get back he tells us the boat cost about $60,000. It has a corevette engine that has 150 more hp than the engine put in corvettes. The prop was a compsite, 3 blade prop with whisper tips but it still made a tremendous amount of noise. They actually gave us all earmuffs to wear while we were on it. Was one of the best Labor days I've ever had.

Glad you had a good labor day weekend lol....I been sick as heck since thurs night....gotten prolly 15 hours of sleep in last 4 nights combined....and got college tomorrow lol...

Glad you didn't find any quicksand up there Killer. 

I would like to have been at my dad's place on Texhoma, but I was home doing laundry.

I had been out of town and on the road for the last 5 weekends, so I spent this long weekend staying at home, sleeping late in my own bed and enjoying the company of my wife and kids.  Not the best labor day I've ever had but the best weekend I've had in a very long time.

I would like to have been at my dad's place on Texhoma, but I was home doing laundry. 

We didn't find any true quicksand thats will take you under but when you stand out in the water you sink. Usually can't go much deeper than the top of my ankles....... usually

Saturday - Grocery shopping, cleaning, making Jack Daniels rib sauce, watched the UT game, played Brothers in arms for a bit, then watched the TCU game.

Sunday - got up at 5:00 and put the ribs in the oven went back to bed. Got up at 9 ish, prepped the potatoes, and corn, put the potatoes on the grill,  11:40 ish stoked the grill with mesquite chunks and waited for them to get good and smokey, took the ribs out of the oven and put them on the grill.  12:30 served the best ribs I have ever made

Yesterday - let the dog out and caught up on some TV I had set to Tivo over the last couple of weeks.
