"smart" machinery
« on: September 07, 2010, 06:54:43 AM »
Not directed at anyone in particular.
Every piece of mechanical and electronic equipment we have now seems ot be a "smart" this or that.
Smart cars that can park and brake themselves, GPS, smart phones etc etc.
But has anyone else noticed that the "smarter" our machinery becomes. the dumber people become?

That is exactly the case. The ones who make this machinery are the ones in control, and they take great pains to make sure they don't have to share their power any more than absolutely necessary.

On another note, no machine will ever be smart. A machine can only do what it was built to do.

Yep,

I work in the IT sector providing support on Very Large Data bases (VLDB's) and it seems that the more user friendly the systems becomes the dumber the Users get.

technology has always been a double edged sword.  I wouldn't want to go back in time where it did not exist.  I also think we should keep up on how to do things without it.

On that note I couldn't tell you my mothers phone number without checking my phone! But at least there is still camping.

My problem with tech is the more complex thing's are the more they break.

Take your brand new fridge that lasts 5 years....and compare to your fridge in the basement for that's been running since 1971.

This is a bit off topic, but:
Hey there Heater.  You ever work with the Model 204 DMBS?
