I hate cats...
« on: September 02, 2001, 03:32:00 PM »
I really do, I just can't stand cats. Sorry hangtime, but as far as I am concerned they are good toys for my dog and that is about it.

That is what I would have said for many years, but in just the past few weeks we acquired on that is changing my opinion of cats. He is just a couple of months old and his name is "Lighting".  What else would a dedicated P-38 driver call his cat?  Almost called him "banana" after our head CM, but the kids preferred "Lighting".  :)

It is all my wife's fault. She is the one who dragged me into the store, (with all the kids) thrust this bundle of purring fur into my hands and said "Isn't he cute"!?  Thirty bucks and ½ hour later he is running around our house driving our "other" 4 year old cat nuts.  :D That other cat loves my wife and kids, but just tolerates me as I do her. More than once I have given her flying lessons, but never to serious injury. Just to what ever pride cats think they inherently acquire.

Lighting though just keeps wanting to play with the older cat, but she will not. He will stalk her and then pounce! She will arch, hiss and chase, but only for a few feet. I watched this go on for 20 minutes this morning to my great pleasure. I think he will drive her crazy in a few months.  :D Lighting would make a better dog that a cat, and I am considering raising him as one. I might as well.  You see, those two will never get along. No way. Not possible.

Let me explain. Being the "daddog" in this little dog pound gives me the authority to name the animals in our home. That other cat never would have made it in our door had not I been able to name it. I remember telling my wife these words exactly, "You can keep him, but I get to name him". She agreed.  I did not hesitate. Her name is "Zeke".

35  bucks! I could have sent you one for free  :)

I have many cats here. People get these things and when  they  realise that they grow up and crap all over, claw and scratch the house up they decided they dont want fluffy anymore. They then drive by my place and  and see the barns and animals and decide that i like animals and would be glad to look after the little toejam. Of course they are never spayed and usually have kittins of thier own. Now haveing a family that watches too many disney movies I cant really do much about the situation. But sometimes there are so many of the little friggers crapping all over my barn, upsetting milk pails and running under cows scaring the living daylights out of them so that i get kicked in the kneecap that I have no choice but to get rid of a few.

I can see myself getting attached to one single cat, but on a whole I hate the little friggers. Almost as much as the butwipes that dump em off in front of my place.

Daddog, there is no law that says you can't raise a cat to behave like a dog!

The girls "rescued" the last one when he was only 3 or 4 weeks old. Not even close to haveing eyes open yet. You know who was stuck bottle feeding that baby every 2 hours 24/7.

So naturally the little critter thinks I'm mamma, and takes after me. LOL drives the girls to absolute distraction sometimes. And he's strickly a one man cat too. While he may tolerate affection for a minute by the girls. He doesn't EVER jump up in their lap & purr like he does mine. Heheheheh Drives em nuts too!

Just keep reminding lighting that he's a dog in cat skin & you'll do fine daddog!  :)

I don't necessarily hate cats. I hate cats in the house.
For the life of me I can't figure why anyone would buy a cat, they just appear don't they? We had a couple cool cats on the farm when I was a kid (maybe 2 out of 20). They showed up on their own, killed enough mice in the feed bins to survive and I'd put some milk in an old pie tin when milking cows or goats. Any cat that couldn't kill enough pests to survive moved on and nobody missed them. IMO that's how cats ought to be, useful or gone

Ok, I'm man enough to admit I'm a cat lover. My fat boy Oscar makes an excellent leg warmer when I'm on the computer.

There are very few cats that I like.  Come to think of it, the only ones that I like were made by Grumman.
