I agree with SCTusk on this one, if you've been playing for 1 week or 1 month, go ahead and fly the DR1. But if you've been around for a while and still fly the DR1 you need to get a grown up plane without training wheels.

I'm noticing quite a bit of snobbery building in the ww1 arena as regards plane choice. If I wanna fly a DR1 I'll fly it regardless of how long I've been flying tbh I don't see a huge difference between the F1 and DR1 if anything the F1 is more stable and less rudder intensive and its only downside is the view over the top wing in a turn.

Perv you are one of the few (pun intended) experienced and capable drivers who ups the Dr1 without hypocrasy; you're quite happy to engage under any terms. The fact that you don't see the Dr1 as having any great advantage is irrelevant, and an issue that's already been discussed at length elsewhere. If someone feels threatened by the combination of your good self + Dr1 enough to attack only with an alt advantage, or with a wingman, or blasting away HO then in my experience you simply get on with the job without complaint  :salute

You may disagree but the general feeling is that the Dr1 is superior, and certainly any Camel driver will approach 1v1 with caution - a well handled Dr1 will quickly out turn him and there's just nowhere to go from there, either at altitude (Dr1 more robust in the dive) or on the deck (Dr1 seems about 5% quicker in a flat right hand turn). The current grumble concerns a handful of experienced Dr1 pilots who insist on co-alt, 1v1 no-HO-shooting merges..... which for a Camel driver equates to being held in contempt unless he turns up to a boxing tournament with one hand tied behind his back. Gentlemans' rules are fine providing the gentleman making the rules doesn't have a horseshoe in his glove.

I generally don't fly the Dr1 because of traditional squad Allied leanings. If the Sopwith Triplane were available (I believe it was actually superior to the Dr1) I would certainly spend time in it, but I wouldn't expect or demand any favours in combat. As far as I can see, nobody goes in there to give someone else target practice. We all seem to enjoy a good fight but lean towards the win rather than the loss in our preferences. No shame in that. There's also an obvious historical appeal. So I can't see a problem with trying to gain an advantage that would have been historically applicable. Jumping someone from above, maybe out of the sun or while they are otherwise engaged..... a little spoiling attack on a HO merge with a quick burst, these are all valid tactics from a historical perspective.

In general the guys in the WW1 arena seem very friendly. Problem right now is that some of the top Dr1 drivers have come to expect an easy time of it, having bluffed the opposition into giving up their rightful combat options based on some non-historical 'Gentlemans Code'. The sooner we take the gloves off and get stuck in no holds barred the sooner we'll see some fair dinkum knock down drag out fightin', instead of this prissy 'not the face!' slapfest we have at the moment. Here in Australia at least, we leave that stuff to the girls.

So a few of the top dr1 sticks have called your flying tactics names, and your upset? Would it make a difference if say,I called some one an alt monkey while I'm flying a d7. Or, don't be a ho bunny while I'm flying a camel? I'm just trying to understand whats really going on here..... If hoing a dr1 is they way peeps think that's their best chance of winning the fight then do it! Keeping an alt advantage is the smart thing to do in any fight... The great dr1 sticks die all the time when fighting each other...   I tell peeps all the time ... fly your fight, not the other guys. If some one is fussin on the all channel about how u fly then u have gotten in to their heads with your flying tactics. They'll up again in anger and be an easier kill.... all apart of the game.

I really haven't seen these few call everyone else out on how they fly. Peeps are gonna complain about stuff. We all do. I've found the more you fly a plane the more you learn how to kill it in another. I feared Lghays for a long time... until i learned how to beat them... now their just another plane to shoot down. Same with dr1. Don't let the watermelon talk fight your fight. Fly to win and let the words roll off your back.

when I come into a battle area and there is a DR1 higher than me I just egress away from it.  Unless Im in a DR1 myself, then I might get within 1000 just to get a sense if the guy is any good.  Ive been shot down so many times I dont need any more practice at it.

The general feeling is just that a feeling, I flew the dr1 from the start because I had an interest in it historically. I've flew the camel and dr7 against the dr1 and the same thing is true as any other fight its the pilot not the plane (if anything the dr7 and especially the F1 are much more stable to fly in vertical moves than the DR1) the camel is almost on a par in turn with the DR1. If you think a fight is simply chasing each others tails in a circle then yes you will lose eventually to a better turning plane, but thats true of the MA as well.

I also don't think HTC would put such a limited planeset together if they weren't in different ways equal.

Personally I like the WW1 how it is but from a selfish point of view I'd like more targets, its funny how numbers in an arena build numbers. How could you change the gameplay to attract more targets err players back to the arena? Would be interesting to hear any ideas even if they are a not strictly from an air combat perspective?  :salute

GRIPE GRIPE GRIPE.....Why is there so much griping? Everyone always wanting more. When I started flying online sims i died over and over and over till I finally got a kill. I was getting mad but the rage was just a fuel for me to learn how to win instead of losing. The same principal I and everyone else should use in life. The point being that if ya don't like being ded by some crate then learn how to kill it or get in the same plane and give back what he gave you.....DEATH. If ya fly a plane just for it's historical sense then don't complain if a different crate that you may beleive is better than yours constantly kills ya.

I might have just woke up on the wrong side of the world 2day but the griping is getting old about the dr1. Instead bring it to the air and let it be settled up there.

I haven't flown the Dr1, only the Camel.  The Dr1 is less stable than the F1??  The F1 is a bobble head.  Does that mean the Dr1 randomly spins 720 degrees on its own about all three axes at once??

I stopped going in the WWI arena because I never see more than three or four players on in it now if that. Maybe a new plane will bring more players in that arena for a time. That was a fun arena.
