Fw190F8 Rocket Question
« on: September 08, 2010, 12:23:08 AM »
Dose anyone know how the F8's Pb1 rockets were historically salvo'ed? For example the salvo sector in the F6F only allowed rockets to be fired in pairs, or 2 then 4. I like to fly as close to historical as possible, but I don't have any data on the F8's rocket system.

Thanks,
Baumer

F8 pilots used to fire off salvos of 2-4 in order to hit their target accurately. in the game, if you become accurate enough, 2 usually works

Did you find that info in a specific book or reference? I haven't had any luck finding anything yet and am always interested in good books.

Thanks,

 Baum,

Interesting topic so I did some searching and found references to them being fired in "salvo" or "pairs".

Now take that for what it's worth and while I dont suspect that the imformation is false,I'm not sure of the accuracy!

Reference the F8 writeup,I read several other sites that state pretty much the same thing.

  Hope that helps.

PS: second source.

I have a gunsight for use with the PB1 rockets and the WGr21 rockets. I'll give it to you if you want, since I bump into you so rarely, but I must ask that you don't distribute this to any others: Wide spread use of the 190F8 would be holy hell on GV fights  :lol.

I don't know why I even made the damn thing. As far as I know, I'm the only one on the BB's and one of few in the game that has a gunsight specificly made for use with the 190F8.

Thanks everyone those are all good sources, but I'd like to find more detail still.

Nemisis thanks for the offer, but I made a sight a while ago for the 190F8(see below).

However, since adopting my approach of flying historically I have since replaced it with a standard Revi D sight (makes it a lot harder to hit but that's the challenge).

how does that work you try to line the tank up with the boxes?

Yes the rockets from the Left wing hit the left box and the right wing hits the right box. Works best at 300 mph with a flat approach (dangerous approach but good results).

Trying to do it more historically, the approach is much slower,  below 250mph, in a 25 to 30 degree dive.

my sight is simmilar, except that I have marks for 400, and 600yds, since the 400yd mark is more likely to give a hit, but sometimes you can't get that close in.

Baumer,

I beleive the Revi16D sight had an elevation knob to adjust for bombs and rockets. Why not duplicate the horizontal center reticle line down intersecting the verticle reticle line where you expect the rockets to impact at your speed and elevation? In effect you will have two horizontal reticle lines but, since HiTech has not COAD'd the ability for us to adjust elevation on our gunsights, this would be a comprimise with history.

You would have two static horizontal reticle lines but, both would be correct for their function and would still look as historicaly accurate reticle lines for the Revi series. Long narrow lines of light with regularly spaced hashes. Be kind of classy looking in a German sort of way.
