Looks like there maybe a yellow band on this aircraft #32.

Photos & profiles not so great at least the text confirms the rudder also the photo seems to confirm some kind of splotchy camo scheme. The white stripe on the profile from another aircraft maybe? Or the artist mistook the tape for measuring the aircraft as a white stripe when the profile was done?

Also not such a great profile but it is a match for the photos though.

I do now these are Naval KI-84's don't know much more than that for now.

Did the IJN use Ki-84's in combat? If so, that would be a very interesting subject to skin.

Posted these in JAircraft forums seems to be a surprise so far to the administrators of that site that the IJN even had them. Oppama Naval base was South of Tokyo on the coast they had the propellers taken off as part of the concern that a pilot may go active again after the surrender. We may never know if they did or did not see combat? If someone knows JAircraft is the place the answer will be found.

Interesting. Perhaps the aircraft were forced to divert to that airfield for some reason, but are actually IJA aircraft.

The Japanese sites where I found some of the photos say theses were aircraft assigned to the navy for evaluation purposes.
Jim Lansdale at Jaircraft translated the tail.

"I think this this is [コ- ハへ-1 ] [KO-HA YA- 1].  KO is the prefix for test aircraft, followed by the kana for the first two syllables in HAYATE."

At wars end the Japanese through everything into the fight it is possible even though evaluation aircraft they still may have seen combat.
