FLOAT PLANES
« on: September 08, 2010, 06:32:23 PM »
Why not add recon planes that are float planes such as the Catalina. Adding this could add another role play to the game such as when sighting a CV a pilot could mark the position on the clipboard map and it would stay for as long at the flights duration ie.. until land or killed. Also being a float plane it could open a new window on port defense as you could successfully take of and land in all friendly water ports and CV's and you could include the load out of bombs that most of the float planes were capable of. :airplane:

Maybe if you ditch or bail into the sea a float plane could pick you up, land, and then you could land your kills.

I've always liked this idea.

As much as I'd like to see the PBY in the game, there are alot of other aircraft more deserving to be added to the plane set first. Russian, Japanese, Italian and even French.

That was the reply when I asked about this a while back anyway. ;) Do a forum search on the PBY. The guys did make some valid points against it at that time IMO. :salute

I would love the Catalina, but it just isn't the most pressing at this point.

Now a fighter with floats....

you can select any plane in the planeset and it will do a better job than the catalina at finding the cv.  Catalina is not really needed.

Sure give the normal ports something new:  The Rufe, that ugly-as-sin-dweebfire-on-skies, Ju-52 floatie for troops, H8k for the port buff choice.  DONE!!!

Pyro, please devote all of your efforts to the endeavor; crack the whip on Waffel while you are at it, give HT a big bottle of scotch to keep him out of the way, do whatever you can with Skuzzy (although at his age nothing helps much).  We expect this to be in-game in TWO WEEKS mister!

Technically, the PBY Catalina was not a float plane.

You're right, it's a seaplane.  Except those with retractable gear...those are amphibians.
