Does your joystick lose calibration in AH?
« on: May 22, 2000, 11:46:00 AM »
Mine does. Joystick is a MS Sidewinder Pro. All drivers are current versions. Windows 98 SE OS. Calibration loss is not consistent. Can fly sometimes for hours and never happens. Sometimes can fly for a few minutes & lose calibration. Stick does not appear to be spikeing. Btw, only happens in AH.
Any ideas?

Do you see the stick out of calibration in the windows test function or only in AH?
To be honest I don't have any answers for you other than to try and help figure where the issue might be. I had a SW 3D Pro a couple of years ago and I still needed to calibrate it every now and then. Not as much as you have to though.
Btw, are you using your soundcard port or a gamecard? If thru the soundcard what kind of card is it?

Thanks Westy for responding. Yes, when I lose calibration, it does show in Windows setup as well. I can simply recalibrate in AH, however, and it is fine (Until it does it again).
I am using a game port on a sound card, Sound Blaster Live with current drivers.
Directx 7.0a also.
I did notice last night that when I lose calibration, I also get sent to zoom mode in whatever view I am in and my engine sound revs, then back to normal. All this happens at 1 time, calibration loss, zoom mode & engine sounds.

Apache,

I have the same stick.  Guess what......mine does it as well.  However, mine also recalibrates in other games so it's not just Aces High.

I've found DX makes a big difference.

DX6.0 Stick recalibrates every hour or so....
DX6.1 Every 1/2 hour or so
DX7.0a  Every 10 minutes.
DX7.0b  Bout every 4 hours......ish.

I've tried changing both joystick and sound card drivers (even though the stick is USB, someone suggested it) but nothing else makes any difference.

My advice?   Upgrade your DX to DX7.0b or buy a new stick......apparently the new MS Sidewinder Pro Force Feedback no longer exhibits this bug.......but then again it's a man at Microshaft who's saying this......

Well shoot. Unless there is something I don't know, there is no 7.0b.
Maybe Swoop is calling 7.0 7.0a and 7.0a 7.0b? If so, then thats not my problem. I am using 7.0a.

Are Poll interupts checked or unchecked?  The lastest DirectX is 7.0a last I checked (2 weeks ago).

I have to recal my rudders in AH after every reboot (starts up in the game with full right input if i dont) The joystick and throttle are always right on. Using Saitek X36 USB combo and CH Pro Pedals USB

Poll with interupts unchecked rip1. I have tried with both configs. This is a real strange conflict. I think I will drop back to Winblows 95. I didn't have these kinda probs. with that.

Thansk all!

Just a shot in the dark Apache but are you runnin in 16bit or 32bit video mode.I have a precision pro also and when I ran in 32bit I had to recalibrate alot more often(js is hooked up to my soundblaster card). In 16bit I have no problem. All of this is mundane since ya probably already went back to win95 but thought I'd throw it out there.
