x52 software, MIA?
« on: September 09, 2010, 10:19:33 PM »
Hi to all simmers.
i've been flying offline and lurked this board for some time.
latley i seriously (well, more or less) started working on my sim pit  and purchased used x52 controller. the CD however is missing. i tried to download the needed software  but saitek's site seems like a huge mess, throwing php errors left and right.  :furious

was wondering if any owner of x52 can zip and email a copy of their CD? or upload to torrent/ ftp?
or perhaps knows where i can download it from?

thanks in advance!

Have you checked Saitek's websight. You will not need the Saitek software for Aces high, or at least I did not use it.

Just go to Saitek website and download the drivers and software if you want to use those. No need to have a CD or ISO file sent with them...besides you really don't need them unless you think you need profiles and then you still will want to have the latest versions.

He's right.. their site is a mess right now.

You can no longer select X52 from the drop down boxes to select a download (only X52 Pro.. I guess the non-pro is not supported anymore).

You CAN however get them from their FTP servers (remove the space after ftp:)

ftp: //ftp.saitek.com/pub/software/full/

You're looking for Saitek_X52_Flight_Controller_ SD6_32.exe if 32bit, and
Saitek_X52_Flight_Controller_ SD6_64.exe if 64 bit.

I know when I had one, generally speaking, installing the SST was something to be avoided unless required, as it generally introduced problems you wouldn't have otherwise.  But you do need the drivers.

Also, strange as it is, check to see if Windows Update wants to install a driver after you've installed them. They have a version that fixes a glitch that doesn't affect Aces High, but causes games that use the joystick's trigger as an "enter key" (The X series of games being the one I had trouble with) to really wig out.

Agreed that there is no reason to use SST unless you want to make macros to spam country channel. Even then, I could never get a macro to work properly.

That's odd.. I used to run the SST software all of the times for several different games (including Aces High) and I had it programmed to all kinds of neat things.  For example, my safety FIRE button was programmed that if I held down the pinkie trigger (for shift) and held it down for two seconds it would send ENTER ENTER ENTER.  When I released it, it would send O.  Basically it would eject me, and when I released it, the chute would open.  Since it was shifted, AND had to be held down for at least two seconds, that made it very difficult (although not impossible as I managed it a couple of times) to accidentally eject.

I never had a single problem with their software, but I took great care to program what I could through aces high (leaving those commands UNPROGRAMMED in SST).  Others are correct though.  The general rule is that if you don't need any of that fancy programming, then don't install SST.  Personally, I liked having a SHIFT command and used it frequently!
